URGENT - Harvard Summer Waitlist!

did anyone get in? does Harvard contact ppl to enroll at the very last minute when they discovered that some ppl didn't show up when college commences? Has this ever happened at Harvard before? Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It is rare, but of course it happens, at Harvard or elsewhere. That's why admission numbers are never final until you see who shows up on the first day of classes.

haha, for those who are curious, i'm asking this cos' i got waitlisted at Williams, and i really hope HYP would take in ppl, so increases my chance of getting into Williams! thanks for your input anyway!

I don't think there will be any movement at this point. They've assigned Peer Advising Fellows, dorm assignments have been made, pre-orientation programs have been decided on, etc.

Instead of wishing that people would be moved off the waitlist (nearly impossible at this point, as students have been Z-listed already), why don't you make your interest known to Williams?

I think Harvard is pretty much done with 2010 this point and moving onto recruitment for 2011. Harvard didn't admit many kids from the waitlist this year, and it seemed like any spots that did open up during the "summer melt" as someone on this forum once called it are for kids that were already admitted to 2011 and graduated high school in 2006. If you have been told that you have been removed from consideration, I don't think you can come back. As for Williams, their class is pretty small so I doubt they would have any more spaces as well.

thanks anyway guys...the only reason why i didn't contact the Williams Admissions Office ppl is cos' they don't sound like very patient ppl...i'm an interntional student btw...and during the 3 months which i got waitlisted, i kept DHLing extra recommendations and writing samples to them as well as e-mails, yet they either don't respond or get impatient... that's why i don't wanna turn them off even more by calling after i've actually got rejected from the waitlist...do you guys have any idea what i should do to communicate my interest in a "less annoying" way? thanks!

Where are you going instead?

Really Curious Kid?
I've found the Williams admissions people are some of the most patient out there.

nah...maybe i was just unlucky to be assigned an impatient one...:p

oh, i'll be going to Wellesley instead if things don't work out for Williams

I've heard of a story of someone that moved into their dorm room at Dartmouth, found out they were accepted off the wait-list at Stanford, and did an about face out to CA.
