I have submitted my Common Application, Supplement, and Payments. But the school forms hasn't been completed yet by my School counselor. My teacher has submitted his recommendation letter.

Three questions.
1)How long does it really take to fill the form up?
2)The website says deadline is on 15th of January. Does that mean I(or my school counselor) can still pass the school forms on the 15th?
3)If we pass by the deadline and my school counselor couldn't finish it before then, will we still be able to pass the school forms in any other way that the university might accept?

School forms can still be provided to the school through the Common App after the due date for your application. It is not unusual for the school forms to run a bit late, so it probably is not an issue.

You will see the little triangle next to “School Forms” for that school turn green once they are uploaded. My D’s triangle did NOT turn green even once the counselor said the forms were uploaded, so we told the counselor that. They did something behind the scenes… and then the link worked and it turned green. So there is a fine line between nagging them and there being a true problem. If they have given you a target date for completing it, and it is not done on the morning of that day, it is okay to do a polite check in with your high school office that should be doing the upload. If they say they have done it, let them know if your triangle is still not green.

No the things is my triangle is green but it says assigned. When I click on the School Forms, It shows no triangle no shape at all beside the counselor’s name. It only shows Started : 1/9/2013.

I think once she’s done its supposed to say submitted, then Downloaded by College once it gets downloaded by the college.

So I’m not sure if we are on the same page here intparent

That’s correct. The triangle is green because you (the applicant) has done everything you are able to do on your end, so your school forms are ‘done,’ even though your counselor has only started it and not pressed the submit button. Like intparent said, schools will let school forms come in a little late (and they usually do).

The school form can either take a little time or a lot of time depending on whether or not your counselor is writting a narrative evaluation for you or just filling out the boxes. Either way, as long as everything you are able to directly control is requested/sent/submitted/paid on your end by the deadline (including scores if the school requires them), you’ll be good.

I think the status on the school forms never changes from “Assigned”. My D was accepted by U of Chicago EA, and her common app STILL says Assigned on the right of the “School Forms”. As does every other college she has applied to, and all their portals say that they have recieved her letters of rec & transcripts. So once you have a green triangle and the word “Assigned”, I think you are good to go. All the other components do say something else (Application says “Downloaded”, and “Supplement” and “Payment” say complete). But “Assigned” is as good as it gets for School Forms. :)

Many colleges send you a link into some kind of portal where you can check the status of your documents. Watch that, and if something is missing you will be able to see it if you are still worried.

The deadline for my Payments, Supplements, and Common Application is January 15.
Is there even a deadline for the school forms or can I always submit them on a later date?
Cuz I kinda read that somewhere. And also in the page of the school forms, I don’t see anywhere its writen that the deadline is on the 15th.

Intparent-- that’s odd. I just checked my Common App, and to the R of school forms, I have a green ‘Downloaded by College’ next to the school report for all of my schools. I have the word ‘invited’ up near the top, and then down in the next section, where I assigned specific teachers to schols, I do have a green ‘downloaded’ by the school report and a black ‘started’ by my mid-year. I remember watching the downloaded cycle through ‘Assigned’->‘Started’->‘Submitted’->‘Downloaded.’

This may also be less of an issue if your counselor does these all the time, but I had a teacher rec that sat for three weeks because the prof thought he had submitted when he hadn’t, and I was afraid of asking. So definitely don’t forget to nicely follow-up.

EDIT-- for the school forms, most schools will let the HS submit them later. Yes, they are technically due on the 15th, but schools understand that public guidance counselors juggle a lot, and won’t punish your application for something that was out of your control.

Ah… I think we might be looking at different spots on the Common App. When I just look at “My Colleges” and pick a college, I see what I described in my last post (just says “Assigned” to the right of the School Forms). But if I click on the words “School Forms”, it takes me into a more detailed screen like you described (and does indeed show the downloaded status for all of my D’s items).

When writing about your most important extracurricular in the common application or in a college application essay, is it better to write about the extracurricular you are most PASSIONATE about or most ACCOMPLISHED in?
