URGENT:Math 16 vs 1

What exactly is the difference? If I received a 3 on the AP Calc AB exam, which should I take?

Help~n .

It depends on what major you plan to enter. The Math 16 series is more for the social/life sciences, while the Math 1 series is designed for physical/biological sciences. From what I've heard, Math 1 is harder than Math 16, but I'm an incoming freshman so I can't say that from experience. I hope this helps you out a little.

Yes, the 1 series is harder... much harder. Both the material and the curve.

Here's a site someone gave to me once and it helped a lot.

<a href="http://math.berkeley.edu/courses_1stcourse.html%5B/url%5D">http://math.berkeley.edu/courses_1stcourse.html</a></p>

Um, random question but does Math 16A fulfill the med school requirement of having 1 year in Calculus the same way Math 1A does?

Yes it fulfills the requirement for med school.

Math 1a, 16a, 16b are all easy.

Math 1b is hard.

Many pre-med students take the 1 series though. You could do Math1a and then decide later on to take 16b or 1b.

the 16 series covers less material than the 1 series. the 1 series is for physical science and mcb majors and prepares you for future math classes. the 16 series is known as a "terminal" course because you cannot take any more math afterward. basically, the 1 series opens doors while the 16 series closes them. check what your major requires to see what you should take.

If you got a 3 on the ab exam i would be worried about 1a. I forgot the exact number, but something like 35 % of the students taking it get 5s
