My state is requiring me to take the new SAT tomorrow, and I don’t know what to do. Here’s the deal:
I am a junior and I took the SAT once in November and once again in February (January test got snowed out). My scores for February will come out in 10 days, so I do not know whether I will eventually resort to taking the new SAT. I just took the first practice test for the new SAT and got a 1510. Should I cancel my scores tomorrow and take the new SAT in May (if I am not satisfied with my scores for the February test)?
Also, many of the schools that I am planning to apply to require the essay. However, my state is administrating the new SAT WITHOUT the essay. Hence, if I decide to take the new SAT, I am going to have to take it again for the essay — giving me a grand total of FOUR attempts. If I cancel tomorrow, I can study for a few months, and only have three attempts AND the essay.
If you were me, what would you do? Would you cancel?
I wouldn’t worry about four attempts considering Class of 2017 has two versions. If you took the old test, you need two attempts at new one to have a Super Score. My D is in the same situation and takes it Saturday.
@Sportsman88 What about the whole deal with the essay? How does superscoring between the two different tests — one with the essay and one without — work?
That is going to vary by institution. Some that we are looking at only requre SAT or ACT with essay once and others can be without essay. My D is taking ACT without essay this week but that is how her school does it for the all junior test.
@scienceyo Most schools are NOT requiring the essay for Class of 2017. Check the schools you are interested in- you will likely find they do not require it. If they do not require it, just take it tomorrow.
I think you have 3 days after today to cancel test scores (that’s how it usually goes for the SAT). Even if you did terribly, you only send one set of scores in I think because you can’t superscore. (I might be wrong on the last part)
