On the Upload Materials section of the Harvard Application Status Portal on their website, it says that they received an “Academic Work” from me, even though I didn’t submit one. Is this my optional supplemental essay that I submitted for the Writing supplement on the Common App? Thanks in advance, I just want to clarify.
On a side note, is Harvard one of the schools affected by the delay in sending SAT score reports? If so, does anyone know if they are fine with receiving those scores late?
ughh I have that same problem, i submitted an optional essay but also sent stuff by snail mail, maybe thats what theyre referring too? I freaked out at first thinking I uploaded something by mistake, turns out other ppl have the same problem @writingwords@bobchillax@Remolten
I had the same issue and I called the admissions office, because I had 3 “Academic Work” uploads in my portal. They told me that they were transcripts from colleges I took dual enrollment classes at. Nothing to worry about. If you sent in any hard copies of your transcripts, that’s probably the case.
Do we need transcripts from the colleges that we took courses in? @giraffeinatree
Now that I think about it, I did have one document sent by snail mail, so that might be it @nineninenine
I guess its not the supplemental essay, but it’s weird how they received it at the same time that I submitted my common app @bobchillax
Y-E-S! If you took a college level course at a university, you MUST have an “Official Transcript” sent from the college to the Harvard Admissions Office. Why is this so hard for student’s to comprehend, especially in light of the many students who have tried to put a fast-one over on Admissions. For example: http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2012/9/21/wheeler-artificial-intelligence/
@writingwords what @gibby said. I called and they told me I didnt need to submit any college transcripts as long as the courses showed up my HS transcript. Luckily I called back again a week later to double check and the guy told me that the other person was wrong, in fact, and that transcripts are mandatory. I was feeling a little stressed and rushed at that point because it was only a couple days before the app deadline, but luckily everything got in on time.
Moral of the story: Harvard wants transcripts from any place that gave you credit for a class throughout high school.
@gibby@giraffeinatree I honestly did not know that we had to send official transcripts for the college courses we took because I didn’t see anything on the Harvard website that indicated we need to send college transcripts to them in addition to high school transcripts. Will my application be considered incomplete because of this? I wrote on my Common App that I took college courses in the Education section, but the Harvard Applicant Status Portal indicates that all materials required have been received.
I would send the transcripts ASAP. I think you can still be considered for admission without them, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to have them submitted just in case.
Harvard’s portal only tracks the required elements of a file. As college transcripts are not one of the required elements, I think you should have your official college transcripts sent to Admissions. When my kids were applying to college that’s what they did.
@gibby I’m also in a similar situation. I did not send any college transcripts, however my college courses and their respective grades were listed on my high school transcript. Is this acceptable?
Several years back, Harvard accepted a student who faked his way in with forged transcripts and test scores. So Admissions no longer accepts students at their word, and needs an Official Transcript for college courses. If you don’t submit an Official Transcript, Harvard does not have proof you took the class or received the grade you say you received. So I would recommend you have the college send Harvard Admissions an Official Transcript.
@gibby They are listed on my Official High School Transcript as well as self-reported. I will try and submit one directly from the college anyways. Thanks!
^^ In most instances, that doesn’t happen. If the college courses are listed on your Official High School Transcript, then there’s no need to submit an Official Transcript from the college. There’s only a need to do so if the college courses DO NOT appear on your HS Transcript.
