Hi

How important is it to have pre req classes for majors on your application when applying for TAG to a UC???

I have enough units for TAG, it's just my enrollment date for SMC is late as hell and I don't think Ima get the classes I need for my major like acconting and sht, so I'm probably gna end up taking bs courses that'll just up my units count.

So does it really matter how many prereqs for ur major u have?? or as long as u have good grades and 30 units for TAG ur good??

Please lemme kno asap

thanks

wassup lemme break it down for you. Lol jk. But anyways, it does matter how many prerequisite courses you have depending on major. Some schools admit based on how much GE is completed (UCSD). On each respective UC website, it will tell you what the minimum requirement is to be admitted through TAG. To your 30 units, yes that’s the minimum you need. Some schools require that you finish prerequisites before you actually submit your TAG. For example, Irvine requires engineering majors to finish a certain amount of math and/or physics by the summer before you submit your TAG. So it varies.

What about for UCSB econ majors??

As long as you complete your pre-reqs for Econ by the end of Spring 2013, you’ll be alright for UCSB. Stats, Micro, Macro, and one Calculus/Business Calc course or two Calc courses and no Stats. The choice is yours.

@larinaga wait how do you know that information? I’ll have Stats, Micro, Managerial Actg, and Calc I finished by the end of this fall. I’m planning on taking Macro, Financial Actg, and Calc II but you’re telling me I don’t need to take Calc II and my tag won’t be pulled?

Don’t need to take Calc 2 , if you have taken stats

^Exactly. Information is pulled directly off Assist.org. You’re fine since you’ve completed a Stats and Calc class. Since you have Macro planned you’re fine.

Yes it matters, UCSB screens for prereqs for Econ majors. If you don’t have the courses in post #4 completed by spring, you will be automatically rejected.

Okay so Econ 1, Econ 2, and Stats and I’m good???

You also need a Calculus course.

Again, two options: Micro, Macro, Stats, Calc 1/Business Calc

OR

Micro, Macro, Calc 1, Calc 2

OMG this literally just made my life so much better thanks so much guys. Now I have a little situation, I put that I’m taking Calc II next semester on my TAG. Is there anyway to fix that?

I will have Micro, Macro, and Stats done by the end of this Summer 2013.

I will have 3/4 completed. Will I be automatically rejected from TAG???

Am I screwed???

@Insurance: You’ll have an opportunity to update your information during the January update for the UC app. You can’t edit your TAG at this stage in the application process. Just input your planned coursework for Spring 2013 as is when the update rolls around and write a note in the additional comments saying that there have been changes to your TAG Spring 2013 schedule. You can do it now if you haven’t submitted your UC app yet.

@TonyStark93 - I hate to say this, but you absolutely need to have 4/4 completed by SPRING 2013, or else you won’t even be admitted into the Econ major, regardless of TAG or not. They might admit you for your second choice major. Econ is a selective major at UCSB that screens for pre-reqs. They need to be done by Spring 2013. I was rejected back when I applied for Fall 2011 for not having my Calculus done. I would e-mail UCSB and ask what your options are.

TonyStark: My apologies if I freaked you out! Disregard what I wrote previously. I didn’t realize you were applying for Fall 2014. I read another one of your posts and found out. You’re totally fine then. You’ll have all the way up to Spring 2014 to complete your Econ pre-reqs. I’d recommend getting them out of the way sooner rather than later though. Good luck! :)

larinaga: You son of a @#!$…

Lmao jkjk.

I was *****ting in my pants you have no idea how worried I was.

Yes I am applying for Fall 2014.

Since I would be applying for UC TAG in November 2013, would I still need to get some of those Econ pre-reqs done by then? or what?

LMAO! My bad, dude. You should have mentioned the year you were applying! Haha.

I mean, it’s up to you, but you need to have 4/4 completed by the end of Spring 2014. If you can get them all done by the end of Fall 2013, you’ll be golden. Just don’t leave all four of them until Spring 2014 because I’m sure it’ll raise some alarms.

I haven’t sent my app in yet so that’s perfect, I’ll just put in the info I need fixed in the additional comments box after I list all my courses right? Which UCs and CSUs are you applying to @larinaga. Did you TAG to SB for Econ major?

You can do it that way. I personally wrote in the additional comments box after the personal statements.

Yeah, I’m applying to 7 UCs and TAG’ed to UCSB Econ. Good luck!
