Hi! I need to make my decision very soon, it would be great if you guys can give me some suggestions on what I should do… I’m going to become a junior next year (fall 2018) and we are selecting our courses for next year already (currently a sophomore)
Right now, this is what I requested for:
(FYI, I’m not taking the full diploma for IB because of some personal reasons)
IB English Language & Literature A HL
IB Chemistry HL
IB Economics HL
AP Psychology
IB Math SL
IB Spanish B SL
IB Business SL
Personally, I’m not a big fan of taking a language B course, but our school requires 3 years of world language in order to graduate. I’m taking Spanish 3 right now and I truly don’t enjoy learning it and I’m somewhat struggling with it (like I’d rather study for physics than to study for Spanish) Our Spanish 3 teacher this year isn’t strict towards grading, which is the only reason why I still have an A right now. I’m positive that I don’t really have a good foundation towards Spanish.
Originally, I was going to keep all the courses I have so far and drop IB Spanish B SL to IB Spanish Ab Initio so I would be able to spend more of my time studying those other subjects since I heard classes such as AP psych and IB chem will be pretty time-consuming. However, everyone’s telling me to not drop it to Ab Initio because they said that it’ll look bad on my transcript. Most people are telling me to drop IB Business instead (including my school counselor) since they said I’m taking 3 social sciences and my workload will be pretty heavy.
IF I drop IB Business, I’ll most likely take forensics for that period (which is a non-IB/AP class)
Will taking ab initio really look bad? will colleges really reject me because of my choice for language B?
As a whole, what do you guys think? Should I drop Spanish B SL to Ab initio or should I drop IB Business SL to a non-IB class and then keep Spanish B SL?
Thank you very much!!
