It just hit me - the BATHROOMS! I'm veryyyyy picky in that dept., like I find public restrooms dis-kust-ing... I refuse to go in them.

Are Exeter's bathrooms bad? Specifically the girl's? Also, Andover's...

Uhm, just get used to it! There are germs EVERYWHERE and if you're really picky, you just can't survive! Same as dustmites being everywhere.

LOL... uhm, I wish I could!

I WILL get used it, I'll have to, but I'm just wondering to what extent will my 'adapting' be needed? Meaning, is it like strip-mall dirty (very dirty)? Nice theatre dirty (alright)? Hotel lobby dirty (not too dirty)? Or fairly spotless...

And I know there are germs everywhere, but I'm talking about 700 million versus 60 billion, lol.

Don't worry about the bathrooms until you are ACCEPTED! Then, you can make your school choice and consider bathrooms or whatever else is important!

Look, guys, I don't want to hear that I shouldn't care, or how I should wait until I'm accepted. Clearly I'm curious, and I don't think that I'm out of line to be considering these things.

I appreciate the comments, thanks, but I just want to know the answer to my question.

It's boarding school, mmoynan! You can count on nasty bathrooms, sloppy rooms and lots of germs. If it makes you feel any better, the boys facilities will be much nastier. Exeter is bigger than the average boarding school too - more germs on more toilet seats. And those Harkness tables? Just big Petri dishes. Try not to touch anything.

depends how new the Exeter dorms are. if you live in a dorm thats new than it'll be cleaner because they are probably trying to keep it in shape

Exeter has a large endowment and word is that they are contemplating a breakthrough in the BS environment: separate dorms for each student!
That's right, every Exeter boarder will have their own house starting in 2011.

Take that Andover!!!

Lol... if only. Yeah, take THAT Andover! (And of COURSE they have to implement it the year I'd be leaving.)

You sure are a class act Parlabane, you sure are a class act.

I agree that the age of dorm would have much to do with it.

Well, really, think about it....germs? Are you actually worried about the germs? You should be worried more about the Admissions Officers.

try neuro-linguistic programming

ME TOO! i was freaking about that too at first but from what i heard they're pretty well kept

The new Exeter houses (over 900 of them) will be relatively small -- one bedroom, small galley kitchen, pristine bathroom. All will be prefab and totally green of course. They will arrayed around the new helicopter pads and underground parking lot which are also on the drawing board.

Script #23:

"...Germs are tiny, well-mannered little creatures that are much more frightened of me than I, of them..."

This topic also came up last year......search and ye shall find. But last year's thread did not have such good humor!

The one thing that used to annoy me the most was people who didn't clean their hair out of the shower. Nothing like taking a shower with other people's hair...

i'm not a germaphobe at all, but i found the bathrooms at exeter to be just fine. they are cleaned monday-friday (and maybe on saturday?) by the dorm's janitor. gross things do happen like hair in the shower, but usually strategically placed signs like "take care; clean up your hair" can deter such behavior to some extent.

OK, not even talking germs....what about some privacy when in the bathroom??? Is that hard to adjust to? I mean really, who likes taking care of personal business in a group room?

Also....is it hard to get a shower when you want it? If your floor has 3 showers...do you have to plan to get up at 5 am to get a shower before your 8:00 class...do you have to lay in wait to pounce on the next free shower....

I realize these questions are petty, but is does concern those who are leaving their private bathrooms at home.

As for privacy..you just deal with it. It's not that big of a deal, everyone has to do it, you get used to it.

I never had trouble taking a shower...at the school I was at we had like 4 showers for a hall of 17 and I could count on one hand the number of times I ever had to wait for a shower and that was only if it was right after a sports practice that had a formal diner after and everyone wanted to shower before getting dressed up. I don't know, it could be different in the mornings. I showered at night/afternoon after sports, not in the morning.
