is EVERYONE on the Boston College board an URM?? damn i thought i was special :)

haha...I haven't been on the board in a while is everyone?

Anyway, anyone with thoughts on my chances?

i could tell you what i thought but itd be like the blind leading the blind since i'm a lowly hs jr ..good luck tho

Anybody else?

?? Come on, anyone with an idea? How likely are deferred students to be accepted?

That is a tough question. Certainly your URM status gives you a better overall chance. However, your GPA is definitely on the low end for BC. You may have been deferred so they could see how your senior year is going. If you sent them good first semester grades in January, that will work in your favor, especially if you've been showing an upward trend over the last couple of years of HS. Their primary concern is that you be successful if you go to BC.

Being from the NJ, NY, MA, etc. area works against you because they get a very large number of applicants from those states--and your application will be compared with theirs--tough competition as there will be more than a few with URM status.

Good luck--and let them know that you are still very interested!

Thanks Irishforever, most imformative response I have ever gotten to anything on here.

I'm glad to help--we have a D and S1 who have already been through the college process. Your Guidance Counselor should be able to compare your numbers to others from your school who may have applied to BC in recent years. I'm sure they have had quite a few since you indicated that you are at a Jesuit school. By the way, that can also work in your favor--the Jesuits are good about taking care of their own! Talk to him/her about those comparisons, and also to have him/her contact BC on your behalf to let them know of your continued interest, and to put in another good word for you! Again, being at a Jesuit school, the counselor surely has been in contact with BC before!

Good Luck!

Your GPA is very low, your math SAT its way below the BC range, 640 - 720, On the flipside you have a high Verbal score working for you along with your URM status. What about your essays, were they strong? Your activities seem strong, BC loves community service so thats good for you. I guess its all up to luck, your essays, and your letters of rec. I'd say your right on the border, depends on which admissions officer's desk your app lands on, remember EA is harder than RD, good luck.

it was definitely your gpa that got you deferred... unless an 86 is good at your private high school (at mine its like the 50th percentile)

For comparison purposes, Marauder, here are my D's stats and she was also deferred: 2070 SAT (680v 700m 690w), no rank at a small Christian hs, 4.32w/4.0 uw, white female, 4 yrs volleyball on state championship team (soph/sr yrs), loads of ecs and Catholic parish activities, great essay and recs, 5 on Eng Lang AP, three more APs this year. Sounds like you and she are in the same boat. She did improve her SATs to 2130 since her app; we hope that helps. ANd her GC called the admin rep. Good luck to both of you!
