urm??! confused...

hey guys, i have a quick question. i heard urm stands for underrepresented minority. is that ethnic or national?? because i don´t think too many austrian students are at princeton, but since i am white western european... you know ^^
thanks for responding...

URMs are an ethnic category. “Look, our colleges has 15% African American and 3% American Indian students!”

That being said, colleges strive for more sorts of diversity than just diversity measured by ethnicity. They want a broad range of majors, students with different extra-curricular interests, students from different socioeconomic backgrounds and yes, also geographic diversity. I don’t want to rain on your parade, but most countries are represented by only 1 or 2 undergraduate students at Princeton. That is 1 or 2 students per 4 admission cycles. Just saying…

Being from Western Europe will neither work in your favor nor put you at a disadvantage. Given what I have heard about admission practices at Princeton, it is unlikely that you would get admitted with anything short of a major national or international accomplishment.

ok thanks, was just wondering. yh, i know about the standards… ill just try- doesn´t hurt ^^
