Hey there I have this question as a homework assignment but am debating over 2 answers

Q: What happpened to the American political system during the antebellum period?
A: b. It fragmented into a multi-party system
c. It became more democratic

Didn't it due both as Jackson came into office? I think b is the answer....but does anyone know for sure?

I though the same but my SAT II US Hist book says as a header "The emergence of New Political parties during the Jacksonian Era" And the first sentence beginning "For about 10 years (1816-1826) the Democratic Republican Party was the only party in U.S. Politics."

I would say B. I'm in IB History of the Americas, and we just finished a unit on the Civil War, and prior to it, there were great divisions in individual political parties, which led to the formation of several break off parties.

i woudl believe B woudl be correct, since " the term "Antebellum" is often used (especially in U.S. South) to refer to the period of increasing sectionalism leading to the American Civil War," so yes. B is the correct one. It may have become more democratic because of the Jackson period when voting did become valuable to all males, but women and slaves did not get their rights to vote till after the civil war i believe. SO BBBBB@@@!!!
