--- US History Subject Test Review Thread ---

I think they emphasize the conquistadors more than anything.

So I was really prepared to give up this exam b/c of how badly I did on the Bio Spark Notes exams today. But then I realized Spark Notes has errors all over the place and is not accurate at all for Bio. And I did better on US history after basically no preparation, when Bio I’ve been studying a ton. This would make sense if I was better at US History, but Bio is my best subject.

Lesson: Do not trust Spark Notes Bio.

^
See! Same problem here. I feel like I can put little to no effort into history I’ll be fine. That’s why I’m studying for history more because that minimal effort can at least get me a score 700+ but bio has unmotivated me so much all my efforts seem to come up short so I haven’t bothered to review. Two days left :frowning: but I’m stuck with 4 hours of history homework :((((

Not really, no. I don’t remember anything on the test about specifics like that.

-x-

Oh, and just because an answer seems completely out of place. Don’t completely eliminate it. You’ll be surprised at some of the things that happened. The test is not logical. It’s human instinct.

CollegeBoard really doesn’t emphasize wars. Which is good.

If you’ve taken APUSH – You are in good shape. I am only in Honors US and I had to basically learn a lot of material in APUSH. And I only came out with a 670.

All my friends who were in APUSH and just took the test, no prep, no nothing. Landed in the 700s. One got a 750.

cadillac- not likely. I wouldn’t waste my time memorizing all those explorers when there are more important stuff to focus on. Even if they do test on explorers it’s probably just going to be 1 question or something…

Shizzle - seriously. I just took the bio test & for one of the questions my answer was apparently wrong b/c “B is not the correct answer. You should have selected B.” & they’re missing some graphs(for the USH tests as well)

and guys, what is the curve for the test? Kaplans says I can miss around 7-8 for an 800… that seems ok

but it also says that 20 wrong (or about -24 points) is a 740.
my friend took the test and got 740, and shes really good at history, and told me she missed 12 questions MAX.

Any of you guys got different scales?

Can someone outline

A. The position/standing of labor unions throughout American history (e.x. lost power between 1920s and Great Depression)

B. American population growth throughout American history

You should know things like Haymarket Square, AFL, Gompers…I cant really explain that well though…but also know Sherman Anti-Trust, Clayton…

I’m just going to throw this out there and say labor unions/TR period really SUCKS. It’s really boring and I don’t understand any of it.

can someone describe the economic conditions during the civil war/wwI/wwII and the cold war??? thanks a bunch

Does anyone know the trend of **nativism/b from 1800s-1940s?

Nativist sentiment was rampant in the early 1920s–Quota Acts (1921 & 1924); Red Scare 1917-1920.

The Know-Nothing (Natvist) Party was formed in the mid 1800s, so nativist sentiment must have been somewhat prevalent around that time period.

During the time period you listed (1800s-1940), that’s all I can think of off the top of my head…

Is it just me, or do the Kaplan summaries seem too short and superficial…?

Yea on our practice AP test, there was a question that said which of the following is most reponsible for the decline in immigration in the 1920s

and it was the Natinonal Origins Act of 1924.

How is the SAT-II generally figured to size up against the AP?

easier. 10char.

Sick. 10char.

Arent SAT II questions more direct? Ive heard that they are like 1 word answers and odnt make you think about historical trends of that timeperiod.

Also SAT II theres no weird questions that no one has studied.

For anybody that has taken it already (previously in some other month, year), what questions were the hardest? Pre-revolutionary war? 1970s+?

hey guys can you guys give me basic ideas about these topics:
Jimmy Carter and his achievement, Iran-contra affair, Richard Nixon, George G. W. Bush

How far do you need to know? 2000s?
