US House of Rep. Page Program

I completely agree that there are much better ways to cut spending and save $5 million (which is nothing considering Obama’s birthday party was $3 million). If the program really ends, which it appears to be, that means I will have been a part of the last class of pages. There are many great employees working for the U.S. House page program and it’s a shame that they are out of jobs. Being a page was a unique experience that completely opened up my eyes to what really goes on in Capitol Hill. I learned so much about politics and it’s pathetic that kids will no longer have the opportunity I had.

The Senate Page program is still alive according to [Roll Call](House Ends Page Program - Roll Call). But RIP some two hundred years of history and good times–I was planning to apply for next summer, but guess that won’t be happening now!

Dang :/

I was hoping I could attend this in the summer of 2012…looks like I’ll try the Senate Program.

If you didn’t know, Obama’s party was paid for by himself.

$5 million still isn’t that much

Sad day! I really tried to do Page this past summer, but my reps sent me in circles, despite my persistence.

If you have a Facebook, please join the page! With your support we can attempt to bring this program back so scholars like yourselves will have the opportunity to participate in this great program!

Is it too late to sign up for this Spring semester? And I read on a previous post that California’s senators don’t appoint people very often, would it be possible for me to apply through another state’s senator? Please send me an email if you’ve participated in the Congressional Page program, I’d love to learn more about it

obama was probably drunk when he authorized the closing of the Page program to fund his extravaganza bonanza.

Dasdui, did you not read previous posts? Obama paid for his party by himself.

Anyway, I was so disappointed when I found the House of Reps page program was ending. I’m going to apply for the Senate page program, but they only take around 30 students.

hey iluv69s. by himself, I’ll assume you mean taxpayer dollars. no matter how you slice it, the money’s coming out of YOUR pocket.

Not if he, you know, is a millionaire and is willing to spend that much money on his birthday.

“Ann Compton reports that the Obama family paid for the celebration out of its own pocket.”

This was at least the 4th*celebration of the president turning 50. In addition to the Rose Garden barbecue, his reelection campaign threw both small and large parties/fundraisers for the president in Chicago on the eve of his birthday, aides feted him in the Blue Room at noon on his birthday.

Wheeee.

Unfortunately, in 2011, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to do away with the HOR Page Program. :(

b u m p . .

@sfmom3 - urggg so annoying. They are closing everything due to budget cuts :frowning: Hope the economy gets better soon.

Hey, I was a senate page this past spring, and I can guarantee you that the house program closed mainly for other reasons. Cough a sex scandal, a terribly run program with tons of crises, etc

This has probably been discussed before, but I am on a time crunch and can’t read all of the other posts.

I am a junior in HS in NJ. I want to apply for the summer program. What are my chances? In terms of my senators (S. Bob Menendez and S. Frank Lautenberg) actually receiving a page for the summer. Should I apply out of state?

P.S. I meet all the requirements.

Where is the application page?

This summer program has ended like most other government funded summer programs. It really really sucks. And 95% of the summer programs are paid now. UChicago: $3,295 per course + $555 per week of room and board, F DAT.

Sorry, just a bit upset that all of these great opportunities are drying up. :’(
I JUST WANT TO DO SOMETHING WITH MY SUMMER BESIDES WORK AT MY LOCAL JOB!!!

Why is this still a featured thread?
