I'm sorry that a middle of the road team that is occassionally very good isn't good enough for you, when that puts them as a top 40-50 school purely as a football school, that isn't great, but it puts every other top 20 school to shame(better than Vandy normally, Stanford maybe).

No Michigan really does feed UM and focus there and only there. The 'smart kids' go to UM or MSU Honors. Very few have even heard of the Ivies outside HY.

So does Calif w/ UC, Virgina with UVa, Texas with UT, etc.

And really, I find it hard to believe that the "smart kids" in Mich. are that much more uneducated about their educational options than kids in other states - even if a lot of top Mich students do end up at UM, I would think that many do look into other schools.

The UC's and UT are overwhelmed by the largess of the states which they provided for, causing less favoritism to one school. Virginia does have a lot of people focusing on the Virginia publics, however it is also nearer geographically(which is a large part of decisions as a whole) to the Ivies and other 'premier' school than Michigan.

Michigan represents itself well at Northwestern, but otherwise, kids are largely staying home.

Bash it as much as you want, but that's how it's gonna be. Exactly.

I don't care about any other school except UCLA and USC.
I really look forward to seeing any of the two schools beat each other cuz if UCLA wins, then I'll feel good about it (my school) and if USC wins, I'm immediately going over to their website to see a big bolded writing saying

"USC FINALLY AHEAD OF UCLA IN THE U.S. NEWSWEEK & WORLD REPORT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY RANKING!"
in their entrance page where the "Welcome to USC" writing should be.

"I guess we'll just have to wait til August 17th to find out for real, won't we?"

Na, before that time someone will see the correct ranking and back it up with a camera phone pic of the page to verify it. until then, i dont believe any of the people who claim they have the rankings.

Pat, scrolling down your list, I happened to notice your particular personal agenda against Northwestern and WashU. Perhaps it's the Midwest. Hmm.

At any rate, considering how Northwestern has never ranked below 14th and WashU below 20th in the last 15 years, I doubt any school could actually drop 8-9 spots in a year. Everyone's entitled to having hopes and dreams, but I'm afraid, not all of them can come true.

But other than that, though, I don't see how your top 20 is radically different from past year USNews rankings. The way I see it, these USNews rankings are kind of like the weight of a person who watches what he eats. Sure, you might slip and gain a couple pounds, but if you're actually watching what you eat, you're not going to gain 10 pounds just like that. These rankings can fluctutate by a few spots, but drastic changes are very unlikely to happen. No top 20 school will drop or rise 10 spots in a year.

I am a bit hurt that my school dropped two spots in your perception Pat, but I'll live, I guess, sigh.

It's interesting to me a guy that went to PITT has such bias against two great schools in the midwest. Very interesting!
