USNWR is kind of a joke, so you should have learned to expect it by now. They don’t really know how to sell magazines like other companies, which is why they have to depend on the hype produced by their college rankings… which is how we got into this mess in the first place.
There’s no supply without demand. The fact that a thread speculating on the new rankings has existed for 5 months before the release and consists of 1170 posts and 59 pages is proof enough of that.

As for it being a joke, colleges have learned that it’s a force to be reckoned with these days. It was not so long ago that Chicago, of all universities, met with USNWR officials to discuss fixing its rank and reporting measures.

MIT and Johns Hopkins all have 5 year masters, but with higher 4-year graduation rate.

Yep, you’re right. It would be great if we could say that only the opinions of the established top minds mattered, but to get the top students coming out of high school, you have to play the rankings game.

[Georgia colleges remain strong on U.S. News rankings | ajc.com ](<a href=“http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-colleges-remain-strong-593254.html]Georgia ”>http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-colleges-remain-strong-593254.html )

This article appears to contradict the legitimacy of the leak: Emory should be at 20.

^^^ True. It would be hilarious if the article were incorrect. I am emailing the reporter if that is the case…

^MyOpinion

Also ask for the complete real top 20 list while you are at it.

You mean “UGA ranked 18th among public colleges?” Where does it mention Emory?

That article says nothing about Emory.

Whoops totally misread that. Sorry that was a fast scan.

Wait, so what are the “independent sources” that point to the rankings being legit? I think Bahrain is just having a little fun with us.

The info in the link blaquedude put up corresponds precisely with the info put up by the other article by ajc. The leaked list is DEFINITELY incorrect. Bahrain is almost CERTAINLY playing with us, and has done a VERY successful job.

It doesn’t seem, from that page, that it buys you early access

What is the meaning of this?

[Dartmouth College - Best College - Education - US News](<a href=“http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/hanover-nh/dartmouth-college-2573]Dartmouth ”>http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/hanover-nh/dartmouth-college-2573 )

It says Dartmouth is ranked 9 under the Best Colleges 2011. (via the top link) and it says College Category: National Universities.

If Dartmouth moved up to 9 for 2011 then the list is not legit…??

The rankings are up.

Caltech

MIT

Dartmouth

Duke

Chicago

Northwestern

Haha, it seems as if the whole list is available if you search schools up one-by-one.
