US News 2017 rankings

My guess is Rice is a riser (from 18) as they are the cover photo in the top 25 preview. Just a guess.

I joke that a certain set of rivals are, on this alphabetical list, first and last, and that’s not the order they usually are on the actual list

…but I also note that the top ten are the same as last year. So a bit of a let down, maybe the order within will change slightly…

An insider just informed me that Stanford will be breaking the top 3 this year while Columbia and Chicago falls. Dartmouth replaces JHU to be back in the top 10.

Tie for 3 or beat out Yale? Dang.

@ClarinetDad16 I actually predict that Rice will fall because its 6 year graduation rate (which weights a large portion of the ranking) dropped from 93 to 91 percent.

Does anyone know how much yield plays in the rankings?

It seems that schools who would benefit by decreasing the number of applicants - and therefore their admissions work load, are marketing to marginal students harder than ever. It can only be to increase the yield numbers - or make an extra 100 bucks x increased applications. Maybe the 50 bucks they make on each application actually means something?

Yield does not factor into the rankings. But a low yield requires a higher acceptance rate. But acceptance rate is only is weighted 1.5%.

Any predictions on Lehigh? I don’t expect much of an increase, but I do think they should be ranked higher. I feel like they should be ranked near the low thirties, not at 47. A school like BC seems to be more of a peer school to Lehigh than Penn State.

Looks like the Best Colleges home page has already been updated for the 2017 ranking, but not yet the actual rankings themselves. In National Universities, Chicago appears to now be tied with Yale at #3, and in Liberal Arts Colleges, Wellesley appears to have moved up to #3, supplanting Swarthmore:

Well, it seems that the site has an error, and the preview is updated for the Top 3 but not the overall list (which still has Yale as a 3rd without a tie), but all things considered, I would venture to guess it’s a tie.

Also interesting to see UChicago at 3 now as well.

If this is the new list (might be the old one) its released. Tufts is indeed # 27. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities

@jym626 That is the 2016 list (last year’s)

Lehigh was in the scramble of schools piled up between 39-51. Only a few points separate all those schools.

Lehigh used to rank in the low 30s before the gaming commenced by some schools.

Hmm. Oh well. I wondered if that was the old list.Simply clicked on the “see more” (or whatever it said) and that came up…

If you search by school, it APPEARS that all of the new rankings are available. Villanova is listed as tied for No. 50 in national universities. Which is a fine debut!

This just appeared in the last few minutes. Northeastern rises to 39!

It appears the new list is active

^^^ Yep…Wow…UF moved down to 50!!
