Hi everyone! I’m currently a sophomore in a private High School in PA, and I recently applied to the US Senate Page Program. I applied for the fall semester, which begins in September 2017. I sent my application to Senator Bob Casey in early January. I’m having trouble finding much information about this program online or people who have done it. I was wondering if by chance anyone knows when I might hear back about the program, and what the likely hood of Bob Casey even having a spot for a page might be. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!! I’d love to talk to some other people who are applying in other states too…no one I know even knows about this program!! Thanks so much!
I applied for fall 2017 too! I haven’t heard anything back yet–and wow that is early application. I submitted my formal application in May. I still haven’t heard anything yet. Let me know if you here anything, I am still trying to figure out when I will get an acceptance or rejection letter.
I applied for the Fall 2017 session back in June, and I was notified of my acceptance about one week ago! I’d love to get in contact with any other pages that will be serving at the same time as me.
I’m a rising sophomore and had thought that the deadline for 2019 was August 31st. On my senators page it says that you must turn the application in by August 31st of the preceding year does this mean that i have till August of 2018 than? Do you think that I could still use the teacher Recs I have and send them in when applications open?
@NicksonR, could you give us a summary of the application process and your credentials to give others an idea of their chance of getting accepted?

@JollyJellyfish I applied for the fall session back in late June. I applied under Senator Cornyn because he was my state’s senator. His application process required a completed application (the website provided it), a brief 300-500 word essay, 2 letters of recommendation, your transcript, and the finalists were given phone interviews. I didn’t have any ties to Senator Cornyn, so I wouldn’t say that increased my chances. However, I am pretty involved with my community and school organizations. I am a State Vice President for FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), the district president for FFA, Student Council Secretary, Eagle Scout, NHS Member, Key Club member, and I have played a number of sports each year of high school. I think they’re looking for someone who is able to manage their time well while maintaining a high GPA. My best advice would be to research your local Senator and see if they can provide you with an application. I’d be happy to answer any questions if you wanted to contact me.
@NicksonR, thanks for the reply! What kinds of people did you ask to write your letters of recommendation? Were they teachers, religious leaders, other adults, etc.?
@JollyJellyfish I had the president of my school board who is also a close family friend write me one. I also had my youth pastor write me one.
@NicksonR, how was your GPA/ class rank?
Hey @JollyJellyfish !! sorry I never got back to you about any of this (I completely forgot I even made an account!) honestly this whole process really just depends on your specific senator. his/her seniority, popularity, how much they advertise the program, etc. what semester are you looking to apply for?
@JollyJellyfish My GPA was UW 4.0, and I was definitely in the top 10%. Our school didn’t rank us, but I think I was fairly high ranking.
@BL3001, I’m a rising Sophomore, so I hope to apply for Summer 2019. I’m from Pennsylvania, so my Senators are Pat Toomey ® and Bob Casey (D). A quick look at seniority charts shows me that Casey is 34th and Toomey is 56th.
@JollyJellyfish no way!!! I’m from PA and Senator Casey is my sponsor!! he is AMAZING and I’m sure he would be more than happy to host you in a couple years! his staff is great and I am can help you with your application when the time comes!
@BL3001, do you know how Casey/Toomey are allotted their page slots (e.g. summer I is for males and summer II is for females)?
@JollyJellyfish no sorry I don’t. however you should apply to the Senator that represents your political party. it is extremely unlikely that a Republican Senator sponsors and a democrat and the other way around.
