Hey everyone,

I am currently a sophomore in high school and want to do the senate page program this upcoming summer. When are the applications due by?

^ I second this question! (also a sophomore)

Bump!!!

It probably depends on your senator.

I want to know this too.

Yeah, well I
m planning on applying, and I think each senator has a different date…mine doesn
t have it on his website though, it says to call his office to find out more. But I think it depends. Usually that`s the way those types of things work.

EDIT: Yes, it depends, because I found this old thread about it, and one person said April 15th, but they made it sound like it depends: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/376379-u-s-senate-page-5.html

Idk if I should bother applying because neither of California’ Senators have appointed a page in like 10 years. I wonder if I can apply through another state’s senator.

Also I wonder how many people are actually interested in politics and how many just want a resume booster. (not saying that that’s any of you.)

^ I think somewhere in that old thread I posted, someone mentioned applying out of state…in-state gets priority though. I think you can at least apply to the majority leader.

I
m genuinely interested in politics, and would love to be a page. I looked at their program for the school year as well, but I think it would mess up my classes since I wouldn
t be able to take all the APs and whatnot. But having that on my resume is just a bonus (But definitely nice! :))

I second that ^^ :)

Quick question: I am turning 16 at the end of July, would I still be able to apply?

This is what my senator`s website said about the summer page applicants:

Summer Page eligibility is limited to students who have completed the sophomore year and have not begun the senior year of high school and who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment.

:(:( So I have to wait till next summer I guess… I am a sophomore right now.

You know what sucks, in Arizona we have two senators, McCain and Kyl, unfortunately the one who does appoint pages, Kyl, isn’t running for reelection. Maybe McCain will start doing it?

^Oh my god that’s my issue too. I’m from AZ and Jon Kyl’s done this January or something. I’m only a freshman so by the time it’s my time he’ll be gone. I know McCain’s been in the senate a long time, maybe he’ll get to sponsor a page.

Some don
t do it…even those can sponsor, but they still might not get appointed…only like 30 slots, if I
m correct…one of my senator
s doesn
t appoint the summer people, but does do the residential program.

@Swinter, that’s my hope, we’re lucky that both our senators are veterans. Maybe they only wanted one in the state and McCain will take it up once Kyl is out of office.
