US Senate Page Program 2017

I applied to the Senate Page Summer Session 2017. Does anyone know when acceptance and rejection letters come out?

Hi @music5092, did you hear anything about when applicants will get to hear about acceptance or rejection? do they call for interview before accptance?

@sonoran I got a call a few days ago saying that I have been accepted for the summer session! They should be notifying people soon, because it starts in 2 months. The Senator who is sponsoring me doesn’t conduct interviews, but just looks at the applications instead. If you applied I’m not quite sure how it works for other specific states and senators.

Hi @music5092 do you mind saying the state you are from? I too am waiting for a response and am curious. Thanks and congratulations.

I’m waiting for a response too in Ohio, though the other Ohio senator already sent out rejections.

I’m in NC and applied for the summer sessions, they already sent out letters. I got rejected but I hope you guys enjoy it! It seems like the opportunity of a lifetime

@seansie Maine. Good luck on hearing back!!

I applied too; I’m from Kentucky! I haven’t heard anything back yet, but I’m expecting to hear back pretty soon!

For those of you who were accepted: Did you have any connections to your senator?

@"Mvnk " This past year I have had an internship at the Senator’s office. I did not have any connections until I applied for the internship. For the Page Program the office did send the DC office a recommendation for me. Good luck!! I hope you hear back soon!

@music5092 How have you had an internship already? I thought those were only for college students?

I just recieved a letter from Senator Schumer that I got into the second summer (2017) session! I think the letters/calls depend on the due date the senator set, but they do have to rein in their nominations soon.

@MarkowPolo22 congrats!! I’ll be there during the second session as well!

Do they inform rejections? or we assume rejections as this is middle of April or does it depend on senator that you have applied to? anybody?

It depends on the senator you applied to and yes they inform rejections @sonoran

I’ve been thinking about applying for next year but I can’t find anything on NC senators that sponsor pages. Did you apply through an NC senator or out of state?

I’ve been wanting to intern with a senator but all the internships I’ve seen are not abilable to college students. How did you get to intern with a senator, it’s something I’d love to do but not something I want to wait until college for.

@bethw21 I also live in NC, but I can’t find this program on our Senators’ websites… What Senator did you apply through?

@Elsa750 internships are typically for college students. The Senator I intern for really wants students to experience politics, since she got her start through a high school program. I am the only high school intern at the specific office, and possibly in the state (that is not confirmed though). My high school really pushes students to get internships and the office reached out as accepted applications to all interested juniors and seniors. They said that people can apply, but they weren’t positive if they even were going to accept anyone since it is not a position typically available to high school students. I guess they liked my application and I was interviewed and was given the position. I don’t have as much responsibilities as the college students, get paid in school credit (instead of money), and I don’t have an official email. I talk with constituents on the phone and occasionally in person, sort mail, and do anything else that is needed. It has been an amazing opportunity that I’m very glad to have gotten. If you are interested, I would recommend applying to be a Senate Page since I’ve heard that is such a wonderful experience and opportunity (i will be one in the summer). Good luck though I hope you are able to accomplish all that interest you!

Anyone still waiting to hear back?

@Elsa750 You may be able to secure an internship in Raleigh or in your hometown at your reps local office at the state level. Our daughter did a few years back. It opened many doors for her. Reach out to your congressional reps.
