So, I am a soon to be junior and have been lately stressing immensely on my future. Basically, I was born in Dallas but soon moved to Canada. I did all my elementary and secondary education in Canada but my plans are to do post-secondary in the States. In terms of admissions, I will have a much “better” chance of getting accepted as an American citizen compared to being an international student. However, since the mailing address they will see is in Canada, I have to somehow let them know I’m still American. At what point in the application process can I show my citizenship? Is there like some box I need to check off in a form, or is there more to it?
If you are using the Common App, it asks your citizenship. I would imagine schools that don’t use the Common App ask the same question.
AFAIK, there is no application that says “Check here if you are American” or “Check here if you are international.”
When creating my Common App account it only asks if I’m applying as a first-year student or a transfer student. Does Common App ask for my citizenship when I specifically apply to a college?
Yes. Specifically, there is a general section that will apply to all colleges, like your address, your citizenship, etc.
