I have little to no knowledge of either. And I'm self studying. Which would you recommend?

Personally, I find World History much more interesting than US History, which might be a factor in deciding which one you'll self-study for. I also think that World focuses more on broad, general topics while USH is more specific.

I disagree. I'm guessing that US History will be easier because it's been taught throughout K-12. Plus, a lot of the famous people you already know about.

USH is probably easier because its more focused on a specific location whereas World History covers the world...the history of 6 continents and lots of countries. If you do self-study for the World History exam, I would recommend you read the AP World History by Princeton Review first. If you still have time, read Barron's AP World History. The SAT World History review books were crap, particularly Princeton Review's. If you do pick up an SAT World History review book, pick Barron's.

Looking at practice tests, I find World history much easier because its such a huge topic that the questions are for the most part very general. I was looking through one practice test and there was a picture of a colossal head and some of the options were Olmec (correct) and Harappan (aka Indus River Valley). I mean, seriously? US history will be more specific. But it's really about what you're better at.

Hmm.. 2 votes for each. Thanks for these opinions guys :)

certainly WH!

If you haven't taken either AP class, then it will be MUCH easier to study for World History. The US History SATII requires, for its harder questions, a very detailed understanding of specific events, while World History, at its most specific, will only test broad knowledge of events.

Aha, two more votes for World History. Awesome. And how about how to study? I've heard that Princeton Review is good for WH, would that be the best book to get?

PR's AP World history book would be great for review, but the tests in the SAT II PR World/US book will also help. All you need to do is read the AP review and take a few practice SAT II's that you can get your hands on and you'll do fine.

Really? The AP book would be better than SAT II?

Disagree- Barrons SAT 2 World History is simply the best. If you are aiming for 800, get this book. I dont know about the AP version though.

Make sure you take into account if you want to take the test more than once and how much time you have left. If you are a junior now and want to take the test at least twice, then take US History. The World History test is only offered in June and December (unless the college you apply to accepts December tests). Also, that is a huge gap between tests so you will have to keep reviewing for that test. US History is offered every month the SAT is administered, so you can take it in May, June, October, November, etc.

What's the curve on the SAT world and what's the score range for someone who got an easy 5 on the AP World exam? Thanks.

World History has a longer timef rame/more facts, but it is less specific.
USH is only about 400 years max, but it is VERY specific.
If you can memorize random facts, USH is for you. If no, then world.

I have never actually seen the Barron's WH SAT II book, but from this review it sounds lik it might help you as much as an AP book, if not more. I just personally found the SATII history books to be a little lacking in review.
