USA Today All-American Academic Team

Does anybody know any details about this scholarship? I know it's EXTREMELY difficult to get, but do they have state or regional finalists or is it just first and second team?

I think it's just first and second team - at least that's my understanding. I don't really know much else. They have profiles of the winners on the USA Today website.

when does USA Today notify the students if they made the team, probably it already happened if you made it, riight?

D was nominated by her high school for it. However, after reading the profiles of past winners, with ONLY her esteemed academic career and winning personality, she probably doesn't have a chance! If only she hadn't spent so much time studying and had developed a cure for cancer, or adopted a third-world country! Seriously, though--it is an impressive group of nearly super-human people! I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few CCers that make the list.

Yes, I agree. My son was nominated too, but the kids who make the first team especially are truly outstanding. I was just hoping for a third team, but I think we would have heard by now because don't they have to get pictures of the kids at least for the first team? I bet too that some CCers made it.

I know one of the people on that list. I wonder why those people are so outstanding.

What motivates those students to be so great?

So they've officially already notified first and second team?

My D's school wanted her to apply for this honor. She has seen the list in USA Today in the past. She just looked at them & told them they had to be kidding ... she knew there was no way she could compete! Those recognized are truly amazing!!

They've notified all of the teams. The first team got notified in the end of april, and everyone else had letters sent out on May 2. My letter got here on May 4, so look for it Mon and Tues, but beyond that, I think that's it.

Do they send "thanks, but sorry" letters, or do they just notify winners?

Does this need explanation for colleges or is the name-recognition pretty high?

Oh, never mind, I just got my letter. Honorable mention. Too bad.
