USABO and CBO

Another USABO thread, lol.

Well, I just took a practice CBO exam (the 8th...not sure what year this corresponds to) and got a 43/50. Is this a good indication of how I'll do on the USABO open exam, or is the US test harder?

anyone????

Come on, you mean no one is doing the USABO this year? =O (joking)

T_T

I don't know much about the CBO, but if you can get a 43/50 on the USABO open exam, that is pretty good.

heyy. it's not really too hard to pass the open exam, so a 43/50 on CBO is probably higher than the score u'll get on the open, but you'll probably pass. just read campbell's and know the "basics" (basics as in...everything, but doesn't have to be too much detail haha) you'll definitely pass. lol you can also take the australian national tests, those are like our open tests. the CEE website recommends it.

lol for the guy above...yes, if you can get a 43, you can make the camp probably if you have that much skillz ^_^

oh and btw where'd u find the CBO exams?

ahh, but the semifinal exams are a whole other story...

Yeah I'm already looking ahead to the semifinal exam...I hear Lodish + ability to think outside the box when it comes to biology is enough to get a 103+ (which is usually enough to make the camp).

EDIT: I have a book that has a lot of ABO and CBO exams, a friend got it for me...

I finally took the 2002 ABO in full-length and it's even easier than any CBO I've seen...*** lol (45)...looks like there's not much to do but to keep studying =/

Where can we find this book?

BTW, what is CBO?

Canadian Biology Olympiad

Does anyone know how much detail USABO goes in terms of numbers/species etc (like this family has 25k species, or Hesiolyra bergi is a polychaete) I'm guessing open exam probably has nothing of the sort, but the semifinal one?

Lots of taxonomy that I don't want to learn...

Bump (10 chars)

Bump!!! Anyone?

you should know the key characteristics of each phylum, as well as know the branching off points for key characteristics (such as, parazoa is the only animal phyla without vascular tissue, nematodes are pseudocoelomates whereas arthropods have true coeloms). Plant and animal organismal biology is more important though.

What are these exams for?

International Biology Olympiad Qualifying Exams

2 weeks until the big test...I'm excited. Here's hoping for a 40, although the number hardly matters after you get 30 right.

wow
i need some tests
and i'm still reading campbell ahh
