USC 2009 transfer thread

When is the deadline to send in applications? About what time can we expect to hear about our acceptance/rejection? I noticed that some '08 transfers are basically getting their acceptances right now, and that could be a huge problem for someone like me who also plans to apply to the UC schools (since there is a deadline).

jk_91:
Application Deadline: February 1st
Decisions Released: Beginning...
April 1st for Engineers.
*Everyone else's application STARTS getting reviewed immediately after freshman decisions are over (last week of March), which means April 1st onwards. Realistically, don't expect much/anything before then.
*Everyone else at earliest Mid-May. (Though a very rare occurence)
*Most decisions for Fall and Spring Grade Requests are sent out anywhere from Late May through Early-June.
*People with Spring Grade Requests wait for their grades to be processed into the computer and re-evaluated. Some are still waiting as we speak and will receive either a Fall acceptance this week or most likely a spring admission offer/rejection next week. So SGR's can extend the wait until mid-late July.

jk_91: I understand, many people have had the same dilemma. What is usually done is that they SIR with a UC and then once accepted to USC, they cancel the admission to the UC. It's just the $100 (I think) that's inconvenient.

Can you still cancel the SIR even after you send in your transcripts? I believe the deadline for UCs was the 15th of this month. I would think there'd be some sort of repercussion (other than the $100 loss) for waiting so long to tell them you won't be attending.

I'm sure you can, you'd just have to explain to the right people. I know some people that transfered into other privates that withdrew from a UC and just never showed up, lol. But if it's a procrastination problem then that won't be a good excuse, make sure you follow all deadlines for these schools. You'll have to begin the transfer process elsewhere if you don't hear from USC before the UC withdrawal date, just in case.

Did anyone apply twice?
first get rejected and then secondly got in.
When did any of you interview?

i currently have a 3.2 GPA after one year at a private university with more than 50 credits, but hopefully by the end of fall semester i'll have a 3.4ish.

i am premed and took a lot of hard science classes in which there was no grade inflation (not a good excuse i know).

seeing that the average acceptance/matriculation is 3.7, is it worth me applying?

I have been rejected this year as a transfer student, but I will be reapplying. It's really USC or bust for me. So lets get this thread going!!!!

I was rejected last year, this year I made it...keep trying. you'll get there

how do you know what classes to take if you're trying to transfer for fall 09 as a sophmore...i'm enrolled at LMU right now and want to transfer..can anyone help me out..i'm confused about all the six category thing and what not...

in high school i took 6 AP classes and passed them all with 4 or 5 except one 3, i had a 3.72 unweighted, does anyone have any advice..

like can my AP English Language and Composition score take care of the writing requirement??

@hahacollege

it's just the average, it doesn't mean that it's the required minimum.
so, just give it a try and do your best on everything else since the GPA isn't something you'd be able to immediately "fix"
compensate with an excellent essay and perhaps some really good letters of recommendation?

aaam90-- I think your best bet would be to call USC and see if they have any form of articulation with LMU. It's not listed on their website, but they may have something that could help you out.

yeah I'm planning to do that on Monday...I will have fulfilled on the GE core requirements, the diversity requirement and writing after my first semester at LMU...and then just take classes second semester that will help toward my major..

is it hard to transfer into USC as a sophomore..did anyone successfully do it this year

@aaam90

yeah, somebody got in as a sophomore transfer. check the stats thread

aaam90- I got in as a soph into Marshall and I know of a couple other people who did as well. I had a 4.0 and the other two people I know did as well, so take that for what it's worth.

I got in as a sophomore with a 3.3

wow congratulations...if you could answer these questions...what school were you accepted to..where did you transfer from and what was your high school GPA..

hey all,

i'm new...hoping to transfer into viterbi as a junior. i'm looking forward to the process (except the waiting part :))

who would i email/call (i know USC, but specifically; email, phone # plz :D )to update my GPA in Form 1 after my summer classes end?

admitusc@usc.edu or use the form in the admission website.
they are pretty efficient with answering emails and helping you update your app.
