USC 2009 transfer thread

hey, planning on transferring as a soph into marshall

anyone know when the application comes out? i just want to get started haha

Part one of the application is already out I believe.

Can anyone clarify this for me? How does USC calculate your GPA? Does it include every single class you've taken (cumulative) or is it just transferable ones? This makes a big difference for me.

Cumulative.

yah I finished part one a while back. Womanoftroy, do you remember roughly (mid-aug, sept?) when part two of the app became available?

shwayzeee- I'm pretty sure it's after the deadline to turn in Part 1. Like, the day after. :)

So Part 2 will be out October 16th? That's too long...I want to start nowwww. Grrr.

It says on the site they are revising it. =/

hey guys, I have been around here for a while I pretty much read the 08 thread everyday to get a lot of good information.

I am a psych major with 37 credits after freshman year. I just transferred to Santa Monica College for my sophomore year. 3.636gpa

hows everyone doing? lets go get accepted shall we?

cloud25 - I had the same question you had a while back. Mine was regarding Intermediate Algebra. I emailed one of the counselors a while back, I just looked for the email and I no longer have it. The counselor did not give me a very clear answer however it seems like your nontransferable courses are going to be pretty irrelevant.

daang that is a long way off...
Andrewpjones: shall we? Yes, we shall.

Determining Your Transfer and USC GPA

For the admission decision, all grades in USC transferable courses (including grades of "D+" and below) are calculated into the grade point average (GPA). USC takes into account plus/minus grading. Marks of credit/no credit, pass/no pass, withdraw, incomplete, no record, missing grade, and passing course in progress do not affect a student's GPA.

If you repeat a transferable course, each grade earned in that course will be used to calculate the transfer GPA for admission.

Further, USC does not honor academic renewal or academic forgiveness programs that allow students to improve recorded substandard academic performance.

AndrewPJones- the courses will not be "irrelevant". Sure, you won't get any credit because they are remedial courses and minimum standards to apply, but the grade you obtain will be included with everything else to determine your cumulative GPA.

WOWZERS! I just got something in the mail that said my grade in spanish was changed from a "B" to an "A." I don't think it would have effected my 2008 USC application, but weird nonetheless.

on the website it said Part II would be out in august...and i called admissions and she confirmed and said it will be out the first week of august..

My bad. =P I guess I thought it was October 16th because I started filling Part 2 out that day. You all have the essay options available now anyway so I suggest you start working on that first. There's a reason why the essays are available a while before the 2nd part of the application.

oh nice! Well we won't be turning it in for another 6 months or so. How do we know what the essays are already?

hippo, did you apply as transfer or freshman last year?

I applied as a transfer.

So Part 2 will be out sometime this week...nice! I haven't started my essay yet but I have ideas in my head...I think...

where are the essays for the application?? can anyone post them??
