haha that’s pretty funny

Be careful when you get to USC. It really is a dangerous place right when you step off of the luxurious campus.

Just saw it on the CBS news.

way to be a debbie downer makebank :(

aww, that sucks =/

Yeah I heard that on the radio this morning on the USC tram. Tragic.

sorry about that, just wanted to warn you guys about the outsides of USC

Thanks for the warning but we are aware. I don’t want to degrade the victim of this terrible accident, but I get the DPS/TrojanAlerts (I work at USC) and can tell you that a large large portion of those crimes can be avoided if you’re just a little street smart. This includes not running across the street drunk at 3AM in Los Angeles. I grew up a couple of miles from USC and have this knowledge entrenched pretty deep. Call me optimistic, but I hope that people will learn from other’s mistakes.

grey i think we perform better hand-eye coordination WITH jack…

Guys… One more day. And our decisions begin!

Good luck viterbi applicants!

yayyy! frosh applicants will finally be out of the way lol

ns89- don’t be down about a 3.55! u actually have a decent shot with that GPA (not everyone who transfers to USC has a 4.0 – i mean seriously! in 2006 the average transfer GPA was 3.57 so i think u will be ok)

zircushio-

oddly, I agree. Seriously.

Okay so Im a little worried. I go to a 4-year private university in California and i haven’t taken the “recommended” 1 semester of foreign language to transfer. Is there anyone else that did NOT complete a semester of a foreign language? They better not reject me based on that or Im gonna be really ****ed…

Wow I was going to mine this thread for info until I saw how many pages it was! Guess I better get started ;-)

Sorry to hijack but I have a question about Fall '10 transfer (it’s a little early but I figure I need time to prepare)

I want to apply as an East Asian Studies major to UCs but it’s looking like I won’t have enough years of foreign language so I’m not sure how good my chances are. I’m trying to figure out what USC’s requirements are in that regard and I can’t find any info aside from the standard core, the supplemental additional course requirements and this tidbit from the department website: “Majors must complete four semesters (16 units) of coursework in Chinese, Japanese or Korean language.” I can’t tell if I’m required to finish this prior to transfer however.

What should I do? I plan on having 44 units completed by Spring '10 with another 16 coming from APs. My current GPA is 3.846 (I got my only B so far in Biology…), hoping to bump up to 3.909. I only have 2 semesters of Japanese though and am planning on 1 semester of Asian Studies this summer while I’m deployed (I’m currently Active Duty Air Force)

If worse comes to worst, I have the Marshall requirements fulfilled (Micro/Macro, Calc 1 all with A’s) and Economics as they are the same. If I take one more Anthropology class I should have the reqs for that too. Do I have a shot at East Asian Studies or should I look into one of these majors and minor in EAS instead? Finally, do I have a shot at getting in at USC period? I have a decent GPA (I think) but no EC’s unless being in the military counts as I suppose it can be considered a full time job.

Sorry for all the questions, but I’m deploying soon and I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to get this info. It’s tough calling USC’s admissions office as I’m stationed in Europe and have to call them at weird times and hope I don’t get some canned answer.

PS: I’m a resident of California even though I’m stationed overseas. I don’t know if that helps.

USAFridge,
Many of the successful transfers that I have seen on here have finished their four-semester language requirement prior to transfer. With that said, I think that both the anthro/business/econ options are very viable given your GPA. Whatever major you end up applying to will ultimately be up to you, but it seems that you’d be happiest as an East Asian Studies major. You would probably be able to write a better personal statement about that specific program anyway. USC’s business program would be much more difficult to get into anyway - it’s definitely wise to get a shoe into the University first and feel the waters to see if you want to switch over to business (which is, I understand, a simple process).

To answer your last question, in short, yes you are very competitive with a 3.85. Even more so with a 3.9. Best of luck!

grey_syntactics,

Thanks for the response!

Is applying to more than one major advisable? Like, if I put down East Asian Studies as my #1 choice and I get rejected, and I put Econ or Marshall as #2, will those departments see that it wasn’t my #1 choice and penalize me for it? Assuming that those are more competitive than EAS, could I simply put one of those as my #1 and EAS as #2? I guess what I’m asking is…if I get accepted/rejected to my #1 choice, does that influence my chances at my #2 choice at all?

Also, is it really that simple to switch over to Marshall? I know for certain majors at UCs, if you don’t get accepted directly you can’t switch over or it’s very difficult.

thanks shoo
i dont know, its my first choice but itll be hard… ofc, 3.55 isnt bad, but its way worse than i should have… at least i explained it in my app, hopefully thatll help…

we’ll see, we’ll see…

one thing is for sure, if i somehow do get in… ill probably go crazy spend the rest of the summer in like a drunken haze, get a liver transplant, go for my internship at my family friends private practice(hospital) in dallas , then head over to USC, pay tuition and the spend all the rest of my money on food, booze, and in raiding the apparel shop oh and phone refill so i can call my parents and tell them im broke
sounds fantastic :D

ahh i kno i wanna get in sooo badly

hehe yea it would be sooo nice
thing is, ive always been good in school, and like almost every teacher ive ever had has loved me and thought i was brilliant…i just never took it seriously enough, just let everything float on by while i still managed to get mostly A’s… which i guess is just lucky, because im a quick learner i actually even taught myself 9th grade honors algebra without a book when i was in the 5th grade, just to surprise my parents
i really think USC will be a great opportunity for me to REALLY be serious, because i actually care about the school and ill be able to do stuff that i like, for example, they have a kickass neuroscience department! sweeeeeeeeet!! :D
