USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Can anyone chance me?

I just finished my freshman year at the University of Arizona, was in the honors college. Left Arizona for CC this year in So Cal to take classes for USC and other UC Schools that I am going to apply to. It basically has become my life dream to attend USC. My average GPA is 3.64 right now with a 4.0 transferable GPA to USC (this is before my first semester at CC so the GPA should go up a little before application). If I get all A’s this semester, my GPA will be up to around 3.75.

I have completed 33 units and will have completed 64+ units before I would transfer into USC. I will have completed all the pre-requirements for my number one major at USC, Marshall.

Have a really good resume when it comes to EC, Community Service and Jobs.

At first glance, how do I stack up? I have declared undecided as my second choice of major.

Thanks.

Trojan1234: Okay thank you, I’ll do that. But do you think they would assume I was just doing community service and such to improve my application, and not because I actually want to do it? And if they do think that, is that bad?

And by the way, sorry if the “I know I have excellent writing skills” part comes off as rude or pretentious, I just mean that my GPA, age (maybe?), and personal statement are what I’m counting on to get me in.

And does anyone know if transfers need letters of recommendation? Because I don’t know any of my professors, except for my English one somewhat, whom I’ll have had for 2 semesters at the end of fall. So I’m worried about that. =/

i dont know how they would think you are doing that just to improve ur app… its not bad at all its a plus.

Can somebody answer my question please ? thanks

first off, what is URM and SGR? and for part I of the application, are you guys applying for summer of 2010 or fall of 2010? i’m applying to marshall but if i apply for fall 2010 will i be ineligible to take summer classes?

Anyone go to the transfer day on campus today?? Went to a Marshall presentation, very informative and extremely motivating!!! I just want to be in already!

This is the 2nd transfer day I have attended so I feel like I have a pretty solid grasp on the app. process so if anyone has any questions I can probably help out… FIGHT ON!!

lakerforever24 - URM (Under Represented Minority) and SGR (Spring Grade Request). I’ll be applying for Fall 2010. The question regarding ineligibility for the term for transferring, is something I really don’t know.

To answer partly, I know you can only apply for the fall semester however I’m not sure whether or not you can take summer classes if you’re accepted for the fall semester. I’d assume yes, but I’d email and ask.

You know, there’s another admissions question that’s been bugging me… regarding Marshall… something I’ve wanted to know since last year…

If you get more B’s than A’s in your pre-reqs for Marshall, but you have a 3.8+ gpa, does that mean you have a chance? I’ve always been curious…

archieg, in which of the preqs did you receive Bs in ? If you received B’s in Macro/Micro econ or Business calc it could potentially hurt your chances in getting in because USC stresses the importance on prereqs which is why they will not reach a decision until you have those grades turned on.

Then again if you have alot of credits and many classes under your belt with a 3.8+ you still have a great chance of getting in. Plus when you factor in the essay, letters of rec, extra curricular, it all really depends.

How many credits [semester] do you have completed?

So I have a question regarding Part I of the application. I originally said that I wanted to enter as a Sociology major, but now that I think about it, I’m considering a Philosophy (Ethics, Law and Value Theory) (I think that’s the one I mean) major. So what do I do? Can I resubmit Part I, or change it on Part II or something? And which major would help me get in the door, Philo or Soc (In other words, which major has the higher acceptance rate? I looked everywhere and couldn’t find a number.) Thanks!

so it DOES matter what classes/lib. arts you take for admissions? as far as i know, they only need to see that you took math in h.s and 2 semesters of english.

the thing is, at my school now, my AP Eng. Lang. score (4) is enough to take me out of the mandatory english course but i still have to take Speech. is this enough for admissions?

also, i took more lib. arts in the beginning of the year but has to switch some classes, resulting in me having to drop a class. so basically, my schedule is a bit bare. will they understand this?

Hey everyone!

How are those applications going? essays, LORs, etc.

The countdown continues for USC :D

Hello, I’m new, and I have a question about transferring to USC. I was an international who asked for financial aid last year and didn’t get into any American colleges, so I’m planning to transfer this year from a local college now that I’ve got a reliable source of financial aid.

I’m not sure what I want to do yet, but it says on their website that there is no time for transfers to pick “undecided” as their major. Which majors are the easiest to get in? Anything majors that are hard to get in? Would it hurt to leave it as “undecided?”

Also, although transfer rates are pretty high, would there be any instances where it would be advantageous to apply as a freshman? (My country’s education system is completley different and I don’t know how the credit transfers work or if I can transfer them at all, but my SAT and high school GPA is high, so I thought maybe I can apply as a freshman as well…BUT it says on the website that they will make their descisions based mostly on high school records for someone like me who just started college.)

Thank you-----

By the way, are there people here who know lots about transferring to USC? It takes awhile to search through all of these threads for my specific questions…

mrkman - I’m sort of the way to completion with the essay (now in the process of proofreading and revising), got the short answers finished, and already have approval for 3 LOR.

I’m super pumped for USC. Each Saturday makes me want to go to USC even more.

sorry to get off topic!

but does any one know if any California Community College are having Winter Sessions?

Jessica1289–
I’m also applying for junior transfer 2010 at Thornton, music industry. I’ve never actually talked to anyone else who wanted to transfer there as well! I think your extra-curriculars sound good, the admissions director told me that it’s their 2nd most competitive program  I’m super excited though, trying to keep my GPA up at a 3.9… hopefully I’ll see you next year?

HEKTOR007 - I don’t know the schedules of how other community colleges are like except for PCC. As of right now, PCC has confirmed that they do have winter intercession but the amount of courses offered are half the number from the previous year.

HAFH - If you’ve ever enrolled in college, you can not apply as a Freshman.

when are the LORs due?

lakerforever24 - LOR’s are optional. But if you really want to put a date for the deadline, it would be the same time as the deadline for the transfer application.
