USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Thought I’d drop in here and wish everyone luck. I was a student at USC for a few months. It is a great university and you will all love it. unfortunately i have to look to transfer because I didn’t earn my athletic scholarship and its just so darn expensive.

@ MakeBank - Totally! I had resigned myself to going to SMC to attend their’s, so glad PCC brought it back!

Marshall is easily the most popular program at USC. Sometimes it seems as if every third person is a Business major.

As for the film school, have no doubt that it’s top-notch. It’s been consistently in the top-2 for the past 8-9 years or so, and I think may currently be at #1.

I’ve just decided I’m going to apply to the School of Policy, Planning and Development. I have a 3.75 GPA right now and I intern for the office of the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles. I’m fulfilling Political Science pre-requisites for the other schools I plan to apply for transfer (Berkeley, UCLA, etc.) at Pierce College and I’m concerned that this might look weird to admissions officers. I applied to the film school during high school and got rejecteddddd but I’ve since decided city government is more my style.

You sound like a strong candidate as long as you finish the SPPD pre-reqs, which are macroeconomics, microeconomics, and math. What math classes have you taken?

should i even bother applying with these stats?

3.7 gpa
no community service
1240 SAT (math/verbal)
work like 10 hours a week
i’m in the science club, but only for like the past month and i’ve only participated in one thing… i’ll go to more though
i’m also an engineering major is anyone cares/if it matters

i see all these people’s stats… no offense to any of them but damn if i did that i would have NO social life… are these the only kinds of people that get into schools like USC? i’d really like to go there, and i realize my chances are slim… but would it even be worth a try?

and for those essays in the transfer application… is it okay to lie on those things? it’s not like my life is a movie or anything, i doubt i could write a truthful essay while at the same time making it interesting.

I’ve only taken micro. I’ll be taking macro and stats next semester, so I’m sure they will be asking for a spring grade report :/

b3n5p34km4n - why would it be okay to lie?! Don’t lie on any application, you’ll get landed for big trouble. But I definantly think it’s always worth a try to transfer.

killerforhire, have you taken or plan to take any Math other than stats? also, the amount of units that you’ve completed will have more effect on their decision to send you an SGR. I had microeconomics and the math pre-req in progress when I was waiting to hear back from them, and was admitted without an SGR.

@AMorrison

I finished and completed my essay on “What matters to me and why.” I spent a full month tweaking the essay. The remainder of the application took another two weeks and then I submitted it.

I can’t believe summer 10’ is going on the chopping block again to be cut because of the budget.

USC Annenberg School for Communication is now the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism.

@MakeBank - Yes the mismanagement of money is pretty shocking. I love that they “discovered” an extra 30 million after Paulette Perfumo left.

@SkylineisMine - Wow! You’re way a head of the game, must be nice to be able to relax a bit! :)

AMorrison - here’s to PCC on trying to “discover” more money… hopefully

does anyone know the transfer rate for each school? specifically annenberg? do they do it by major there or just by the school as a whole?

Hey guys

I asked USC about letters of rec for transfers, they said its not required. Do they really want letters of rec from us? Why are people sending them? I’m afraid I’ll just give them something they didn’t ask for.

I’m applying as a sophomore for next year, Viterbi.

thank you!!

Likeme,

I emailed Annenberg about a week ago. They told me the average GPA of accepted transfers for Fall 2009 was 3.69. This includes all majors at USC Annenberg School. From what I’ve heard, Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations are the most competitive of the Annenberg majors.

Where are you transferring from? What major? etc. etc.

PizzaEggroll,

Certain majors require letters of rec. You may or may not need to submit one. It looks like there is a supplemental application for Viterbi. Here is a link that shows all of the additional requirements for each USC school/major.

johnny_boi, public relations. haha.

im a marketing major transferring from a state school where i am a freshman.

i have 2 internships already and am planning to do one next semester. im in a PR club right now and am really busy with that. my classes are easy so i’m shooting for 3.7/3.8. i really hope i get in! do you have any idea how hard their PR program is?

another question, my writing course is fulfilled by my AP Eng Lang score here (a 4). will that fulfill WRIT130 at USC?
