USC 2010 Transfer Thread

I noticed some of you guys had questions about LOR… I called the admissions office and asked, and they told me to have your professors send them in to their address. They said to be sure to include your USC ID # and they would add it to your file. Hopefully that helps…

@AMorrison

thanks for answering my question. thats a bit relieving but my goodness! that only gives my professors ~5 days to post grades and you know how teachers lag…

oh and another question though i’m not sure this is the best place to ask since we’re all prospective students but is there a section on the app where you fill in courses you PLAN on taking for upcoming terms?

ernily - under the “activity summary” section.

Hey guys I have a dilemma, I’m applying for Fall 2010, and I may not have my eng req done by spring, however, will have it done by summer.

This is my 1st semester and I’ve taken 18 units. I should have a 4.0, I’m taking 5 units during the winter intersessions (Anthro and a pre-req English), and 16-21 units during Spring. (However, I’ll be completing ENG 101 (1 under the English Writ130 requirement). However, I’ll be taking the Writ130 english requirement during the summer intersessions

If USC request springs, what can I do? I will be showing them that I still don’t have my english requirements done, can I ask for them to wait till Summer? I think I’ll be holding a 4.0 Spring as well, so a total of 41-45 Units at a 4.0.

Regarding the essays and such, I feel I’ll be able to write very emotional/passionate essays, hopefully sparking some interest.

Am I screwed?

nabilesmail:

A representative from Marshall came to my CC last month and she stated that all prereqs must be completed by the end of Spring semester. However, you should contact the admissions office and see if there is any flexibility with this on a case by case basis.

Best of luck.

nabilesmail:

I actually just spoke to my admissions counselor about a similar situation. I was looking to transfer to Marshall, but I am not going to be able to because of the program I’m in right now. I have to take Intro to Economics (ECON 224 at my school) for my major, but USC wants Micro (ECON 221) and Macro (ECON 222) for Marshall, so I’m SOL there. I want to be able to apply to Marshall but at the same time I don’t want to derail my progress here if USC doesn’t turn out. She said all pre-reqs must be completed, so I’m not allowed to apply to Marshall.

@ernily - Yes, I had the same issue with the grade turnarounds. What you can do is have them put your final grade on a postcard and mail it to you, or explain the situation to them and get them to put it on a card and sign it for you to send into USC.

@ mxbile: what is the number u called to ask about the LORs? i want to ask them personally

I’m set to do a Bio class in the Spring that includes a Lab, however it isn’t listed in the articulation agreement as fulfilling the Scientific Inquiry requirement. It is listed as transferable, however. I’m wondering if there is any chance that they will accept it as fulfilling the requirement? I hope so, because I’d hate to have to take another lab class again.

Is it one of the main bio + lab classes at your school? Like Bio 101? I am taking bio 101 + lab for non-majors next spring at my cc and it qualifies for the GE category. Are you looking at an official transfer agreement or the unofficial articulation history I linked earlier?

@Lakerforever

I called the office of undergraduate admissions. There number is (213) 740-1111… Let me know what they tell you.

what do you think my chances are of transferring to USC as either a businness major or econ major for the fall of 2010?

I am a freshmen at the univ of colorado boulder. I will complete 30 credits by the end of this year. I will also have completed all the requirements. (2 semesters of writing… math… .econ… etc)

I am expecting a GPA ranging from about a 3.4- 3.5

I am of Cuban decent, and was born in Miami, FL.

I went to a competitive high school where my GPA was 3.3 (a senior GPA of a 4.0)

Competed in 3 varsity sports (all dade honors)

participated in several clubs (law and litigation etc)

participated in community service projects involving autistic children, miccosukke indians, etc

@Kulakai I’m looking here: Error;

Unfortunately it’s not a “main” one like an Intro course, it is “Modern Human Genetics” (Bio 39 at my school, PCC). Transferrable, but not listed in the articulation agreement for that GE :(.

@Amorrison - Is there anyway you could take a different Bio course that does transfer as GE credit but is still worthwhile and interesting for you to take at your current school? If not then well…-_-

@Trojans - Most people will tell you on here the average marshall transfer gpa tends to be in the 3.6 to 3.8 range. You will be on the low end with your gpa so it will be a bit of a reach but still worth applying to since you seem well rounded.

@Amorrison you probably need to take another bio with a lab, unless at the time you took the class it fulfilled the articulation guide with PCC. Say if you took it last year and it was on the guide to fulfill the BIO/Phys Lab GE last year then you’re fine, but if it was never on the articulation guide for that GE area then you’re in bad luck =/. You can always e-mail or call USC counselors and ask them if it’s possible for you to transfer it over.

@kulakai

If i dont get accpeted into marshall, do u think i still have a good shot just to be accpeted as my second choice major, which is econ?

oh and i forgot to mention, i have had work experience, where i was an assistant (picking up calls, filing papers, etc) in an office this summer

@trojans - I’m not as familiar with the econ program at USC so I can’t honestly answer that but Marshall tends to be more competitive than CAS so that would mean their average transfer GPA would be slightly lower than for Marshall transfers. If you have a genuine interest in studying Econ then put it down as your second choice major.

so ive decided to transfer as a junior. do you think that if i don’t fulfill one gen ed and the diversity req, that it will hurt my chances? i’m applying to the PR program and if i fulfill everything, i’ll have way too many credits for the program. It says you shouldn’t complete more than 40.
