Thanks AMorrison!! :)

quick questions:

1) for the activities summary, do i post what i have done in high school or what i have done in college? or both??

2) do i have to post all my standardized scores? (sat/act/satII/ap)

3) are the applications for transfer and freshman similar? can i base my essay on the same essay i used when i applied as a freshman?

thanks everyone. and whoever replies.

- Since I’m a first year college student, I’m putting down both high school and college activites.

2) I believe so, unless you have 30+ units.

3) I wouldn’t. They may want to read something that’s more focused on college experience/experience with your major.

stigmata: yeah, im a 1st year student also. if we put both high school and college activities. do we put the majority of college activities?

If you’re applying for sophomore admission then I imagine an activity section with more high school than college activities would be acceptable.

And like stigmata said, if you have 30 units or more (this includes in progress/spring/winter coursework) no test scores are needed.

Anyone else lagging their personal statements?

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about the high school activities too. I put them down just to do it, I figured it couldn’t hurt… I’m applying for junior admission though. Submitted my app before December and now I’m just waiting until June. I can’t stand the anticipation, I am so excited. Any other music industry majors applying for 10???

Hey guys, hope your finals (and holiday break) is going well. I never thought I would ever do a chance thread again, but this time I’m feeling lost and confused, and need some help… Here goes…

By the end of spring semester 2009 I had 40 units and a 3.45 GPA… I took 15 units this semester and got all A’s, except for a B in my 4 unit stats (I’m pretty sure it’s a B rather than an A), bringing my GPA to 3.53…

I’m applying to SPPD, and I have yet to finish the math pre-req… what are my chances of at least a SGR???

Can anyone give me some advice? Do I still have a chance for SC, or should I just give up???

Thanks!

wait so, i currently have about 20 semester units (31 quarter), do i have to complete 30 semester by the time i apply? or by the time i finish the year?

i kinda don’t want them to look at my test scores and high school stuff…

@ rbkhoops21, you need to complete 30 semester units by the time you FINISH the year so they won’t look at your high school records. You may ask, well how do they know if you will finish the 30 units since they review apps starting late April and early May. Unless you have say a 3.78+ (though this GPA estimate is not at all accurate but fairly reasonable to consider) by the time you apply, there is a great chance you’ll get a SGR (Spring Grade Request). An SGR will require you to send in your last quarter of grades which you will receive during mid to end June, then you must send those grades over to USC and then they will review your app once again when they receive your SGR and they will mail you your results in July. But if you have an impeccable GPA then you do not need to worry about an SGR and just make sure you finish your 30 units and all prereqs by the end of the year.

Does the 30 unit rule apply to the credit you entered your current college with/would enter USC with? Or does it mean that I have to take 30 credits at Emory (the school I attend) for the rule to apply?

archieg, dont give up

@brianlee- Yeah, I’m lagging it, haha. I’m going to shoot for January with the app.

Any other Marshall candidates?

On the “Admission Documents” part of the application, it says that there are no required documents left for me to send, however, all of the received documents that they have are from my application last year. Is it safe to assume that I don’t need to send in certain things for my application this year, such as SAT scores? I guess I’ll have to resend in my high school transcript anyways since it has second semester grades.

So how important do you guys think the essays and short answers are? If I had a killer GPA, like 3.96, and SAT scores over 2200, but I wrote a crappy essay, would I likely be denied? On the other hand, could a great essay and short answer make up for just decent grades?

For Viterbi Engineering in particular.

I think you’d be pretty much set with a 2200+ and a good GPA. However, why would you write a mediocre personal statement?

I’d like to know the answer to “Does the 30 unit rule apply to the credit you entered your current college with/would enter USC with? Or does it mean that I have to take 30 credits at Emory (the school I attend) for the rule to apply?” since in the application it states to enter unit values. Can somebody answer this?

@XoXoCC & Fuji - You need a total of 30 college semester credits or the equivilent in quarter credits for transfer by the completion of spring semester before the fall you are applying for. This could be from your current school or say, 15 from a CC and 15 from the 4 year you are at now.

@ arcadefire–
i am not exactly sure how usc weighs each section of the application, but last year (out of high school) my gf applied with a 4.4 gpa and 2100ish sat and didnt write that grat of an essay and got denied the first time, but appealed and got in. so im assuming that the essay is pretty important especially considering that our hs sent 30 kids to ucla and a few ivys. but who knows exactly what usc is looking for.

stigmatamartyr: I’d write a crappy personal statement because I hate writing essays, haha

how do they know that we will finish 30 semseter or 45 quarter units by the end of the year? do they automatically know and mostly look at college stats?

also, do we need letters of rec? if not, can we include them anyway? is it good to?

thanks.
