I might be short of 30 hours at my current school, but some of these classes are 4 units at USC, then I would reach that number. I’m not too worried if they look at my high school record; I actually would prefer them to look at both high school and college.

@rbk - If you haven’t finished 30 units yet it is very likely that they will request your Spring grades and then evaluate your application once they’ve gotten them (deadline is June 30).

You can include LORs, someone upthread said that the admissions officers do look at them, but I’m not sure how much they weight them since they don’t ask.

Hey, for sending in transcripts they want us to fax them in, sandwiched between those cover and back sheets we can download. So does this mean we can just open the transcripts? Because on the transcript it says it’s not official if opened but I don’t see any way to do it if they’re unopened…

Well I opened it anyways. The transcript itself doesn’t say anything like “unofficial if not in envelope”, and it’s got all the official stuff on it. So can I use this?

I thought we were supposed to have transcripts send directly from our current college. Can anyone clarify this?

I’m thinking about getting both high school and college transcripts and running them down to USC since I live about 45 minutes away.

does anyone know what gets determined when deciding how much scholarships we get? do they look at GPA, essays, financial need, LORs etc… I have a 4.0 with 59 completed units thru 3 semester (4 including summer). I can also get amazing LORs from my econ teacher and business teacher (i’m applying to marshall) but iono how much they factor in LORs since they don’t require them. And i also come from a low-middle class household with famliy income about $60,000 so i obviously can’t afford USC unless i get substantial FA or scholarships

I’m pretty sure the main factor is your financial need and with grades like that you’ll be in good shape to get some really good F.A. There is a good Financial Aid presentation at USC Transfer Days.

Hey guys quick question, I should have a 4.0 so far and am applying to USC, however, I TOTALLY forgot I took a college class during my senior year of high school. During high school, I did absolutely nothing, I just didn’t care. I ended up getting a B in this class, which isn’t bad, but I still don’t want it to affect my gpa. Whats USCs policy of college classes taking during high school? Also, I took the class on my high school campus, and I took it because i needed more credits done to graduate. Do I have to show them that transcript?

@nabilesmail, you’re in luck! good thing you took the college course in order to fulfill credits for your HIGH SCHOOL career, therefore, the credits cannot be applicable again towards college. When I went to transfer days one of the counselors told a student this who had the same dilemma. If you are certain that the college course you took in high school fulfilled a criteria for high school graduation then you do not need to report it, but if it was taken to fulfill college credit then you will have to report it, and if you don’t, and they find out (the counselors warned us they investigate) you will lose all your chances of getting in. Also make sure you have 30 units at the end of this year so they don’t look at your high school/SAT.

EDIT: You may need to check out whether or not you need to send that college course in, since I think they need you to send in your high school transcript in just to make sure you graduated high school and not evaluate it for transfer consideration, I gotta find out myself.

@laker I am in the same boat as you as I am also lower-middle class and they determine your need mostly on grades and financial need johnny_boi stated, LOR only help you get into the school to be accepted, which I highly recommend you do. You may need to get loans if you do not get scholarships or full financial aid help, which is a sacrifice I am willing to make since the prestige of USC will take you far, especially Marshall School of Business.

hey do we have to send in all our paperwork (college transcripts, HS transcripts, LORs) br february 1? Do they have to have it in hand by then or do we jsut have to mail it by then?

lakerforever24: Try your best to hand everything in by Feb 1st, time stamped is fine as well for last minute documents.

hey thanks, the only problem is, this class was taken at Pierce community college, and I took a few of my A courses at Mission Community college. The problem is that pierce and mission are part of LA community colleges. I believe when you ask for a transcript they will automatically mail all courses taken at any LA community college. ahhh I really don’t want that class to count!

hey everybody, ive been lurking around here all day and wanted to say thanks to everybody; ive learned a lot from reading everyone’s responses :]

general info:
i am a fall '10 hopeful- but i am a freshman at a CCC, so i’ll be applying as an undecided junior transfer. as of now, i have complete 20 units, but will have 40 by the end of spring. i have a high SAT and a good h/s GPA, so i dont mind if they look at my h/s transcripts.

questions:
- i know this has been discussed a MILLION times, but has there been an official consensus on the 30 units at the time of application vs. by spring argument pertaining to whether or not h/s records count?

i have decent EC’s [and im not one of those “i-went-to-Africa-for-4-months-but-really, thats-IT!” people. im not being humble; my EC’s are barely decent.] But most of them were done during h/s, but am i right in guessing this is acceptable since im only a freshman at a CCC?

im not sure of my GPA yet, but it should be around 3.5-3.7…is this usc transfer worthy? all my courses [except 1 philosophy class] are transferable, all are 3 units [except 1 tennis class and 1 dance class] and 2 of them [one is in progress bc ill be taking it in spring] are honors courses.

is ok to take a lab at a separate time? like i took Geog 1 in fall, but im taking the lab portion [Geog 15] in winter.

the diversity and language requirements; they do not have to be completed before attending…right?

is it normal that i cant access the Courses & Grades section of the app?

on the main menu of the app, it says that USC has received my Part I and Part II…but i never sent in my Part II! its not even finished yet…so i dont know how that could have happened…i emailed them about this today, but im kinda freaking out about it…has this happened to anyone else?

submitted and done. Feels nice

Must be nice sending it in! I still have the curse of the personal statement on my head. :(

- yes 30 semester units – There is no minimum number of transfer units you must complete before applying for admission. However, if you have fewer than 30 units, your high school record and results from the SAT or ACT will have a greater impact on our admission decision. i found it on [Transferring to USC](<a href=“USC School of Architecture”>USC School of Architecture)

I did the same as you, I used most of my hs EC

It depends on what school you are applying too: marshall states that a competitive applicant has a 3.6–Applicants who earn a minimum ‘B’ grade in each prerequisite course and maintain an overall cumulative 3.6 grade point average will have an advantage in the evaluation process. [USC Marshall Undergraduate Programs Admissions Transfer Students](http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergradprograms/admissions/admissions-transfer-students.htm)

I dont know for sure, but I would assume you can do that.

depends on your major again, some majors require language

transfers dont get the Courses & Grades section of the app

im not sure about that question

i hope that helps a little bit. most questions can be found on usc’s website

I don’t know if this has been discussed here already, but how competitive is Thornton, specifically their BS in Music Industry? Is it more or less competitive than Marhsall?

Im starting my first semester at a CC in the spring, and i hope to transfer to Marshall at USC as a sophomore, and i got an email back from them saying that having a minimum of 16 units will be an advantage. right now im signed up for 17 units:

ETHN 350 (gen ed)
ETHN 300 (diversity)
ENGL 100/102 (prereq to writing 130) (5 credits)
ECON 101 (macro econ)
FILM 121 (gen ed)

Im worried that his may be too much but if i were to drop a class that would put me at 14 which may not be enough, any suggestions?

also i plan on take

the first semester of calc for the business math req and acounting 1 over the summer. then complete the calculus req in in the fall, along with acounting 2, micro econ, and the writing course, and another gen ed class which should give me about 16 units.

And since im starting in the spring how would that work if i transfer in the fall?

@armolinasf - To transfer into Marshall they require you to complete writ 130, micro/macro econ, and calculus before you matriculate in the fall. I had to wait an additional year to apply because I had not completed calculus yet.

Are you able to complete all of those before Fall 2010 when you would matriculate? If not then they might not consider you for admission. I’d advise you give their admissions a call to double check.

In regards to 17 credits at a CC, it is completely doable if you are good at time management as those all appear to be relatively easy courses.
