USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Does anybody know what kind of GPA you are expected to maintain during the spring semester when you are accepted? For example, if you received a letter of acceptance without receiving a spring grade request, what kind of gpa do they want you to have during the spring? 3.0? 3.5? Or is it different with every applicant?

ugh I just spoke with THE RUDEST woman in the admissions office, maybe someone nice and helpful here can tell me if you get a confirmation email or some sort of welcome email after you first start your application

From my experience, the people in the admissions office have been rude and conceited. I don’t call them anymore.

@cbradshaw - I didn’t receive an email after beginning my application. I’m sure we’ll receive confirmation emails after we submit our applications though. (I received a confirmation email after submitting Part I.)

Hey everyone! I went through the USC transfer process last year and got in for fall 2010. I am actually at USC (I work in the law school) writing this. If anyone has questions feel free to send me a private message, but I will probably (try at least) to stop by here and there on this thread (if I don’t get too busy or addicted to it like last year!)

It’s important to have a good time and develop friendships on this thread- which will last when you go to USC. Do not stress … too much. There’s a healthy concern, and then there is a ridiculous worry of things you cannot control (they tend to work themselves out anyways!)

A little about my situation that will see the coolness and flexibility of the people in charge of admissions:

I had a “W” coming in a basic Algebra class (I dropped it at my school) and I was freaked out that I wasn’t going to get in because I had not taken math in college (the transfer brochure http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1011/TransferringToUSC_2010.pdf</a> says that you need at least Basic Algebra in college -nope- or Algebra II in high school. In high school though I only took an IB class called “Math Studies” which covered Algebra II and other topics. I was sooo scared I wasn’t going to get in! I did all of this research on the class to prove that we had covered Algebra II- I ended up calling a specific admission line and told them my situation what the class had covered (I had found some school that actually gave a course description)- and the response, “Ok, your fine.” I also posted something about it on the “if there is anything else you need to tell us” section of the app about how I had dropped late and yadda yadda yadda- but the point of the story was that I freaked out for nothing, and though I had not taken Algebra II, I had covered it and was fine.

Just keep in mind that a brochure must be definitive; it cannot be wishy-wahsy or it will not be published.

For example, it states for Category III of Scientific Inquiry that Environmental Science is not acceptable - Buuuut- they counted it! (Which I wish they would not have because I had a B in that class and would have had transferred with all A’s!)

So, what I am saying is that when you actually are dealing with people, it is very different than dealing with a definitive, non-feeling, thinking entity such as a catalog! But that doesn’t mean you should slack, because it is the authoritative document and it is important that you try to fulfill everything on there, making you the strongest transfer applicant you can be.

@johnny_boi - I am fairly certain it depends on the applicant. I remember last year some had no provisions in their acceptance letter and others did.

Hey- cbradshaw. From what I remember I didn’t get one from just starting the second part, only after submitting it. Then expect to get letters asking you for info, or reminding you of dates, etc…

Do you guys know if we need to submit our GPA verification form for the Cal Grant by Feb 2nd also? Or is it just the FAFSA and CSS profile that is due?

And here’s the email response i got regarding transcripts and LORs…took them 12 days to respond:

"Yes, you may submit both your high school and college transcripts on Transfer Day.

Letters of recommendation are not a required element of an application for transfer admission to USC, however, you are certainly welcome to submit them for consideration and they will be reviewed with your application. Recommenders may use their personal letterhead and address the letter to the Admission Committee.

Letters may be included with the application for admission or mailed to the address listed below. Including your USCID as well as your full name in the letter will ensure the recommendation is added to your application file promptly."

Hey guys, does anybody know for sure whether or not USC Marshall is need-blind for transfer applicants? I could not find anything relating to it on their website.

Thanks!

^yes they are need-blind. according to wikipedia it is. look at the list of schools and USC is on there. all schools at USC are needblind

[Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia)

I’m starting at ccc in the spring semester and i hope to transfer my sophomore year. So would i still have to attend classes in the spring or could i essentially take semester off and pick up in the fall?

lakerforever24,

are you sure they are referring to transfer students under the heading “Colleges and schools that are need-blind and full-need for U.S. students” ?

im about to submit part II. HOW EXCITING :D:D:D:D

thank you thank you thank you! I’ve been avoiding calling for quite some time but it seems like here people have better answers. Also, do people have trouble accessing the app from both PCs and Macs?

So when do transfers usually get the decisions anyways? I know the deadline is June 1st, but could we expect to hear before then?

Anyone trying to transfer to annenberg? whats are the pre reqs?

socal4- there are no pre reqs for Annenberg, they only recommend statistics

Surely there must be other applicants to SPPD!!! Is it REALLY just me and killerforhire???

Hope this means we’re both in! lol

I’m applying for Marshall as my first choice and SPPD as my second!

So if I’m definitely going to have 30 units by the end of my spring semester, should I bother imputing/reporting my SAT scores? I’m just worried that they will count against me since I only took them once in high school, and my score was extremely unimpressive. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hey guys

quick question…
for the short answers and activity summary…do you think i should make lists or have them in paragraph form?

thanks!
