USC 2010 Transfer Thread

I believe 715 words would be deemed acceptable; their numbers are simply approximations of what they would like.

I’m wondering the same thing. Mine is a little over 800 words!

I think 800 would be a bit too many words; I’m trying to stick within twenty of what they call for (in simpler terms, 480 to 720).

I’m just having trouble on my essay. Chose the topic: What experience helped me learn what is important to me and why. Man I wish I was a better writer ! :x

I actually think that the short answers are harder than the essay just because they are shorter and more direct.

I struggled on the very first short answer but the essay topic was easy doe me.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the online application? I’m currently using Internet Explorer 8 and I keep on receiving an “Unsupported Browser” error. I’ve been able to access it just fine until today.

SHUG did you say that they ask for both parents info on the CCS even if they are divorced? I have no idea how I would be able to get my dads info… ***??

^ That was incredibly frustrating for me this morning as I was rushing to print out the transcript cover sheets. I’m running on Windows 7 with IE8 and kept getting that “unsupported browser” prompt, though I never had a problem with it before today. I had to resort to using an old windows XP laptop to print the forms.
Hopefully USC fixes that IE8 error soon.

I contacted USC and they said they are working to remedy the problem. In the mean time, they suggested using compatibility mode while browsing. While waiting I found an easier solution though. If you’re using Firefox you can download an add-on called IE Tab that allows you to run IE in a tab through Firefox. It works great and I have not received the “unsupported browser” pop-up yet.

TRANSFER DAY: do u guys wanna meet up on friday somewhere? i’ll be down to meet if the rain is not that bad

Likewise, I’m probably willing to meet assuming the rain lightens up (most likely not going to happen!).

Desert_Fox,

The short answer is that you will need to take ONE class equivalent to USC’s Writing 130. You will NOT have to take a whole year of english to satisfy this requirement.

Longer story… e-mailed the USC admissions office and asked
“Hello, I have a question regarding the transfer requirement stating that transfer applications “must complete two semesters of English composition before enrolling at USC.” I have taken the second, and highest, course in English composition at my college because I received a 4 on the AP English Composition and the AP English Language tests. The class I took is equivalent to Writing 130 at USC, according to the articulation agreement. Considering this, am I required to take a second English composition class to be considered eligible for admission?”

and they said…

"Thank you for your inquiry.

If you have taken the English class that is equivalent to Writing 130 you have met the English requirement."

since the online application is down. do we need to have cover sheets for all of our transcripts sent? or can we just send them to the address given?

@Deneye - User the coversheets if you are sending yourself which will make them easier to file however if you have the transcripts mailed directly from the college/high school then you do not need to worry about them as USC will still figure it out and file them with your application.

Also, the online application isn’t down, you just need to use a real browser like firefox and you can login fine :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: haha

I’ve contacted some people on here already; even exchanged some cell phone numbers. Anyone else attending transfer day that didn’t put their name on the list?

TRANSFER DAY ATTENDEES (Jan 22nd):

 1. LakerForever24 (Business Major)
 2. SkylineisMine (Business Administration)
 3. dreamingUSC (Kinesiology Pre-Medicine)
 4. Deborahmei (Communication)

I’m going – rain or shine.

So I’ve completed the application, but I am just waiting to submit it, and I came across something weird: USC doesn’t ask for any of my courses?

They only want my GPA, and then for Marshall to know all major-related courses/pre-reqs, but no detailed academic history for what I did at my cc (ie if I completed GEs, Diversity, etc.)? Do they just get all the info from the transcript or am I missing something?

LagunaSC: Look under “Activity Summary” and there should be a box asking for a list of courses in the order taken. I remember listing mine by semester.

Also, to those of us meeting on transfer day tomorrow, I’m not sure if Tommy Trojan would be such a good idea considering the rain. Probably just meet in front of the admissions center? I haven’t checked my e-mail, but I think that this is where we are supposed to meet anyways; we’ll be a little earlier than the rest. Let me know what you guys and gals think.

@Skyline - Those are just the courses that are in progress or planned, not what you’ve completed.

Ah, that’s right. My mistake. I’m reminded now of what I did on that section after logging in.
