it is somewhat a last minute decision to apply to usc. I will have my application completed before 1st feb but can i send the transcripts after the dead line of application ( after 1st feb) or should i just forget about it :(

@takeforever

Did they say why or give any other information about that?

@don2009 - Yes you can turn in the transcripts after feb 1st but try to get them in sooner rather than later.

thnk u …

LagunaSC: Laker and I went and met up there. Basically, and in the words of the admissions director, “you need to nail calculus.” This I think makes sense in a lot of ways, but kind of backwards thinking in others since if you don’t take econ, you will have to take it at SC. Essentially to apply to Marshall, you will need Calculus (business or level 1) and Writing 2. One good point is that the econ courses would transfer as proper credit. So, the econ prerequisites (which are required on some upper-division courses) should still be taken before transferring.

Sidenote, and really the only thing I learned: While you may be considered an independent student by the Federal Government if you are 24 or older, you are not considered independent by USC. You must be 26 to be considered independent by USC. In the case of financial aid, you will not need to provide your parents income or any of their financial information to USC if you are considered independent.

@don yes, but if you can try to POST-MARK your transcripts feb 1st or before, if it doesn’t arrive to them by feb 1st it’s totally fine since they don’t start reviewing apps until late march and early april.

what’s everyone’s advice on copy and pasting the essay, I have it nice and laid out on word, but when pasting it into the essay portion, I can’t really center my title since different browsers will see the positioning differently, also I can’t indent my paragraphs so as a rule of thumb i just did around 5 spaces for each paragraph as my indents, any suggestions/comments/input anyone? should i just leave my title at the first line with no spaces, followed by 1 space in between the beginning of my essay, should I center the title, or should I just add around 20-30 spaces? thanks!

@skyline - Thanks! I am applying to Marshall, so if they are placing this much emphasis on Calculus hopefully the fact that I’m using my score of 5 on the AP Calc BC to place out of having to take a Math 118-equivalent won’t adversely affect my chances.

@xdzzzrawr Since you don’t really know how exactly the adcom is going to view your essays, I think that its best to keep it as simple as possible so I just skipped a line for each new paragraph. I think trying to center anything would be the worst possible decisions because you do not know the dimensions of adcom’s display as your title could show up off center.

So the deadline for USC is FEB 1 and we only need to complete the online application by then right? No need to mail the transcripts or other information before that?

I’m trying to be a sophomore transfer…I’m struggling to come up with a legitimate reason to leave berkeley without appearing weak. Anyone have any suggestions please?

@ noodlesli, it’s best to post-mark your transcripts by feb. 1st, I don’t know if there will be anything that will work against you but technically it’s due (and is to be sent out) by feb 1st

@8kbmj23 simply say the school isn’t a fit for you and that the learning environment (however it may not suit you) to be your main reasons for leaving, just because you want to transfer out from a prestigious college doesn’t mean you can’t handle it but just means you chose the wrong school to attend and it’s not really your fault.

xdzzzrawr - thank you so much for your help. I agree with everything you are saying, but wouldn’t it be my fault for declining to go to USC in the first place?

So i have to mail them by feb 1 or the mail should reach them by feb 1? thank you.

it should be postmarked by feb 1

So let’s just hope for a second that all of us get in…

What are you guys planning on doing for housing? I’ve read online what SC says about transfer housing (good-luck getting it through them) but what do you guys think? I also can’t find a good threat on CC about it =(

@ 8kbmj23 oh, I wasn’t aware that you got into USC in the first place, hmmm i mean again you can say you didn’t know what berkley had instore for you and you thought that it would bring you the prospects of your future, but after being there and experiencing the campus life/school style, you feel it doesn’t fit you and that it was your journey to find out really where you want to go, and now you want to go to USC (for the following legitimate and convincing reasons). You have to come up with that for yourself, I don’t know your circumstances at berkley or your GPA or how unhappy you are at berkley, it’s up to you to decide what to write. Maybe the competitive nature of the programs have shooed you away, such as its ridiculously crazy business program where you have to test to get in (at least from what I heard) and it’s not a healthy environment to learn and prepare you for the future, but merely a elitist battleground for a selective few, even if you are qualified, idk I’m just spewing out ideas. reply if you need more help and explain your circumstance to me.

@laguna hmm yea that’s always tough, well what I’m planning on doing is rooming with my friend who goes there since he usually has one roomate living with him and 2 random ppl in the same apartment, so I’ll naturally replace those random ppl next year. What you should do is head over to USC area if you can and try and find prospective areas to live in and compare the prices and make your DEPOSIT EARLY and if anything happens say if you don’t get in, just take that deposit back, or you might lose it depending on the place you’re planning on renting. But all in all, just plan ahead and try to see where it is you might want to live according to your budget and needs.

@LagunaSC - I’ve read it is more challenging to get into housing as a transfer but there’s always a chance. I plan to live off campus alone for a semester and then see about making friends who might be interested in renting a place together later on.

So the online application is seprate from the file mail to them? And do we have to put academic history in the online application like the classes taken and gpa? Thank you
