USC 2011 Transfer Thread

is housing guaranteed?

I know USC does not like Ws, so how bad would my application look if i had one in a major prep. class. I already have another in a class that is unrelated to my major. I really dont want the get a W but i cant take the chance of getting a D. i would retake the class next semester.

@belief

No. Basically first come, first serve basis. I believe they fill Freshman quota then move to the transfers. The earlier you submit your housing application the greater your chance of getting housing.

3.7 is avg so for international student, it would be >=3.8 . OMG, what am i gonna do now

Oh, just wonder if anyone is in honors program for cc, i just wanna ask that they require you to be eligible for writing 1 or english 1,etc… to be taken into consideration. Does that mean by the time you apply for the program you have to pass the writing 1 already or you can take it on your first semester when you go to that college??

Part 1 app submitted!!

And yeah, where/when do we send our proof of high school graduation…?

Thanks :)

@AlexChristopher - yes, leave that part in 1 blank.

@Pinstripe - I saw those stats too. D: I think most of us are in good standing though, right? And someone earlier in the thread (page 3 or so) mentioned that anything 3.5+ is good.

@belief - Nope, Mitch is right.

@diver23 - USC doesn’t compute retaken courses into your GPA… so I dunno. :/

@tantungnam - I’m in the process of joining my college’s Honors Program, I think your question is specific to your college so I dunno if any of us can really answer that.

@everyone asking where to send your transcript - [USC Undergraduate Admission - Admission Counselor](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/contact/)

Mailing address for follow-up application materials and all other types of correspondence:
USC Office of Admission

University Park Campus

dreamupsided0wn-I heard that they do not honor academic renewal, so they count even your past attempts in the transfer GPA :/

AlexChristopher - Sorry, my answer was worded poorly. I agree with you. Taken from the http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1011/Transferring2011.pdf</a> Brochure:

“USC does not honor other colleges’ academic
“renewal” or “forgiveness” programs that
permit students to improve a substandard
grade. If you repeat a transferable course for
which you earned a grade of D+ or lower, both
grades will be included in your transfer GPA;
if the grade on the first course was a C- or
higher, then only the first grade is included.”

Also, bumping this (add yourself if you haven’t already! :)):

Yes. It is unwritten law to never let the USC thread fall to the second page. Haha.

WOW, I see lots of Marshall on the list…I also apply this year and I am planning to retake my SAT on December LOL. I hate SAT so much but now, this is the first time I feel excited to take it LOL

So I find it funny how everyone is talking about my recent problem! I am not shaking as much now but just to clarify for sure, I found out that Annenberg requires less than 36 units and calculated that i will have 50 units by the end of spring. If i subtract the courses that USC didnt require, i will have less than 36. So the Annenberg wont accept me because i took more than they wanted? the extra courses include:
One IGETC course-3 units
Math 125 (even though i passed the equivalent in HS which qualifies for USC so im still making the choice of whether i should take it or not. If i take it its “just incase”. So if i take it in college and i passed it in HS, will they still consider the college one as well even if they accept it from HS? )-5 units
Spanish 02 ( I will take this if i dont qualify for span 03 right away but if i do then haleluya!but if i have to take 02 first, will they count that one too along with 03?) -5 units
Eng this past summer (Do they count courses in the summer taken before your FIRST fall semester as a college freshman?)-3 units
There are no pre-req classes for Annenberg specifically for journalism from what i know of (PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF IM WRONG!) sooo if i decide for myself to take a major-prep class, will they consider that class when counting all the units, too?

I see that USC will only look at their transferable courses so considering all these courses i just listed, will they count them or not?
Thanks!

@Mitch - hehe my thoughts exactly. :stuck_out_tongue: Last year we kept that SCA thread on the front page for a good 7 months. ;)

@tantungnam and @AlexChristopher - which major are you guys applying for?

I want to do business admin. Wow, I just do the short answers online and i when I save it, my firefox said the browser is not certified for this portal and all of my shorts answers are gone. Lucky that my i didnt type my essay directly on the website LOL

@jaajaa20 - look your school up here to see what won’t transfer first: Error;

Then contact your regional adviser and Annenberg admissions because that is a very specific question. :/

@tantungnam

Are you using a Mac? Last year they didn’t support Firefox.

By the way, if anyone wants to exchange short answers/essays for peer review I am always up for that. Last year in the SCA thread we all showed each other our stuff and it calmed everyone down a lot. So yeah, PM me if you’d like an extra set of eyes. :slight_smile: I consider myself to be pretty good at writing/editing college essays.

No, Im using PC. I dont know why but IE also has problem w/ it. Im getting a new laptop, and hopefully there will be no…God-know-problem anymore.

Btw, there is a part that I dont understand on part II application. It says i need to list all of the courses and schools that I attended; however, I am planning to transfer to a community college and I’ve not decided which one yet. Even if I’ve decided, ccc system wont open admission until Oct 18 and it will take you quite some time to receive the admission decision, exclude class schedule. It’s only Oct but I feel the deadline is so close.

One more thing, if i already submitted Part I application and i already gave USC my SAT score, would it be okay if i send them my upcoming SAT score? I am taking it this December and hopefully i’ll reach 2k…hopefully

@dreamupsided0wn : tbh, i was thinking about you looking at my short answers, or even my essay. I can get my friends to edit it for me, but i want to do it by myself. The only thing i need is feedback. I hope you dont mind if one day you receive a pm from me.

tantungnam - you have until February 1st to fill that part out, you’re fine. :P

Yes, you can send them your future SAT scores for consideration even if they weren’t listed on Part I.

Feel free to PM me WHENEVER, seriously. Do not hesitate. :P

@ jaajaa20

USC counts anything that transfers so look at the artriculation to see exactly what all will transfer. So they dont want transferable units to be over 36. the exact quote from the site is “Complete no more than 36 transferable units if you are applying to the Journalism or Public Relations”.

as far as your question about prereqs, this is the quote “There are no lower-division prerequisites for Communication, Public Relations or Journalism. Journalism course work taken at a community college or university will not count toward the USC degree.”
