“backdoor” is the status of the application. typically is true most of the time.

oh ok, thanks.

@jamesbball911:

I sent mine to 700 Childs Way, Los Angeles CA 90089-0911

I was also confused between the addresses as well.

@Snowboard

From what I’ve experienced on USConnect, it tends not to crash but might be slow on the same day as the deadline, especially if you are going to submit it around 11:00-midnight.

So maybe to safe, try to submit it a couple hours earlier…?

On the application under Marshall Supplemental Application it says “FOLLOWING USC EQUIVALENT COURSES MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF SPRING 2010”… Why does it say 2010 is it just a typo and they mean 2011 or what?

I have my official transcripts with me, and I am going to the admissions office tomorrow to turn them in. Now, how can I submit form 7?

I don’t know why you guys are so worked up about completing pre-requisites for Marshall… it is not required in order to be admitted.

@ jamesbball911

They actually are quite important and people should be giving their best effort to finish them. I just recently watched a review on Tiffiani Frye, USC Marshall’s director of undergraduate admission and she states that people who have those pre-reqs finished have a more competitive chance of getting in. In other words, I think those who have the pre-reqs finished are more likely to get in. Even the undergraduates at USC who apply to Marshall school have to finish those pre-reqs before they can be accepted.

I’m not sure of Tiffiani Fyre is still the director because the interview was done in 2008.

I never said it didn’t help out your chances, I was merely stating that it isn’t like you’re going to be automatically rejected if you don’t have the pre-reqs finished by spring. Here is an email the counselor for my trojan transfer plan just sent me,
“These courses are not required for admission to Marshall and cannot be transferred to fulfill the required courses at USC. In other words, you will have to take them at USC regardless of whether or not you take them at your current school. Most students will not have these courses, and it should not impact your admission decision.”
Hope this helps.

Hey,

I’m apply for SCA production and I was curious, do we have to send the physical letters of recommendation or just upload them?

It says on the site:
"Three letters of recommendation (no particular format) are required. Applicants should also upload the letters of recommendation to their application. If a recommender is unwilling to hand the applicant the letter of recommendation for privacy reasons, please have the recommender send his/her letter to the address listed below. Applicants are responsible for verifying that letters of recommendation have been received by USC.

USC Office of Admission
700 Childs Way
University Park Campus
Los Angeles, California 90089-0911"

I scanned and uploaded the letters but do you think they also need the hard copies?

I got two questions regarding transfer to USC Marshall. (Yes, it’s a bit late since it’s due Feb 1)

Do USC Marshall allow you to apply to be a senior? I’m a sophomore but want to wait one more year to get my GPA higher. I know some schools don’t allow you to apply to be a senior, like UVA business.

If I get rejected for Fall 11, can I apply again next year? How would look at you if you apply twice to Marshall?

Wait, so its confirmed that the Feb. 1 deadline means submit it by 11:59 PM Feb. 1? Most schools that have a deadline usually have it due by 11:59 PM the day prior to the deadline.

Prerequisites are highly important. They are a good indicator of your performance at USC. Additionally, it even states in the transferring brochure that the courses must be completed before transferring. It is always in your best interest to have prerequisites finished at the time of your application.

As I stated earlier, an admissions counselor that deals especially with transfers said that pre-reqs do not have to be completed before transferring. Is it recommended? Yes. Is it required? No.

I came from 3 community colleges, and 2 was quarter and 1 was semester, so how do I calculate the GPA? can anyone help? ;[ also same question as above, is it due tmr 11:59 or today 11:59?

I’m not trying to argue here. I’m merely attempting to demonstrate the importance of prerequisites. You have to consider how competitive Marshall is. I’ve been on the transfer forum for some time now and the thing is that is constantly evident is the importance of prerequisites. Go take a look at NYU Stern’s numbers, Haas or UCLA’s Business Economics major. Prerequisites are king. (Are there going to be some instances where an applicant has one missing and they are still accepted? Of course. But the overwhelming majority have all the prerequisites completed before the time of their application).

I quickly glanced at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/904974-usc-transfer-decisions-2010-official-thread.html.

I stopped after 70 or so posts but I know there were more Marshall stats.

In addition, not only did these applicants have the prerequisites done but they also had completed the recommended courses such as Accounting I & II, and the general education courses. They went beyond what USC had “required” them to do. You have to understand that you’ll be competing with applicants who have finished all prerequisites and recommended courses.

Once again this is not meant to call you out, etc. Just trying to highlight the importance.

I wasn’t attacking you at all, and I apologize if I made it seem that way. Just thought you were trying to say that if pre-reqs weren’t completed by spring, then the applicant had NO chance of getting in. Just trying to point out that if you’re missing a course then you still have a chance of getting in.

Good luck y’all!
Went back and forth for about a week whether I should submit the same essay that I got in with last year or write a completely different one; wound up submitting the same one with a few slight changes and changing most of my short answers and “quick takes.” Hopefully that wasn’t a bad idea, I just really liked my essay from last year.
Anyway, done! Just need to get my LOR completed and sent out and make sure they got my most recent transcript and I’m set.

Also, RE: discussion about prereqs - definitely important. If you apply with 2 or more incomplete, expect an SGR if you’re a qualified applicant. It’s obviously not set in stone, but that seems to be the trend. Also, the better you do on your pre-reqs for Marshall the greater the chance you have of getting in (goes without saying but I’m just emphasizing their importance versus other classes in your schedule).

Hey I know this is off topic but to the person who asked me about how us transfers are evaluated with the freshman applicants when applying to the SCA, this is the answer I got back:

“They will not weigh in test scores, as it is not required of you. It is more overall fit and creativity than anything else. They will be looking at your college academics.”

So, there we go. Our poor performance (in my case) in HS won’t hurt us when attempting to transfer to this insanely competitive program within USC. I only hope it is the same for all the other programs.
