Hey all,
I was recently accepted to USC (yay), but their financial aid office has consistently sent me several “Additional Info Required” emails. I had previously indicated I would be signing up for aid, and began the process, but ultimately gave up halfway (because not wurf). Being middle class/upper, I doubt I’ll be able to receive much, or anything at all.
Bottom line: I don’t want any more emails… Is there a “cancel application” action I overlooked? Should I send their financial aid office an email disclosing my reconsideration?
Or can I just ignore it?
Thanks everyone.
If you don’t submit the form you just won’t get any aid. But, honestly, we are upper middle class yet my son got a modest grant plus the federal loans plus work-study. I know it’s a lot of paperwork but you could be surprised.
I don’t know anything about FA compared to the gurus on this forum, but it is so funny you posted this, I just had this conversation with someone discussing how they wish they’d have never checked the “applying for aid box.” If you truly don’t want/need it, I would call and ask if you can be removed/changed status because the emails will haunt you forever.
At a minimum you would probably be able to get the Stafford loans (couple thousand) but if you don’t want the debt or need them I would call FA and ask if they can change your status. Oh if you do take a loan, you will need to do this loan tutorial thing. A bit annoying, but not a bad thing for you to go through, good info to learn.
I still remember my friend telling me about her husband sitting at the table trying to do all the forms and just saying, “heck with this, bring me the checkbook!” So you are not alone.
