Hey guys Im a freshman at a CC and this is my first semester. My school has a placement test for math which I placed in to Precalculus. I later dropped out with a W. How strange would it look for me to retake the placement test an place into Calculus next semester? I was planning on applying to USC, but i fear the W in a math is gonna kill me. I have a total of 11 other credits and my GPA should be a 4.0 besides the W. I plan to be a Biology major and one of my other courses is an honors biology course.

I think it would be okay to just retake the course next semester. One “W” isn’t that bad anyway (and you have a 4.0!), but I’d retake the course to show your determination. Placing into Calculus isn’t necessary imo, but no harm in taking the placement test at your cc and seeing how you do. However, I think they’d rather see the continued high GPA and if Calculus will be a struggle for you then it’s possibly a risk to take it next semester when you are carrying a tough load of classes (with the honors).

Thanks! Yeah Pre-Calc might be a better option because I have some credits to make up from that dropped class.
