USC Animation Major anyone?

Hey guys, I'm planning to apply for USC School of Cinema Animation and Digital Arts.

Are any of you applying?

Also, it would be awesome if you guys could help decide whether or not I can get in. I have average scores and an average grade, but I am hoping that my experience in art will help get me in.

Activities/Honors
Afterschool College art classes
Saturday High @ Art Center (got merit-based scholarship)
Volunteered for Health and Science Fair
Yearbook
Clubs

Summer Programs:
OTIS Summer of Art for 2 summers (Received full scholarship twice)

Grades/Scores

GPA: 3.75

SAT: 1680
ACT Composite: 25

AP
World History: 5
Biology: 3
Art History: 3

I have taken 6 AP course. (Ya, I know, lame that I didn't pass the other 3. I started off strong academically, but ever since I found art, I focused less on academics. I guess it's my fault.. But I don't regret it.)

Current Courses:
AP English Literature
AP Government/Politics
Yearbook
Exploring Computer Science (Graduation fulfillment)

My online portfolio: DAI00 (I have not yet updated all artworks, I still have to take pictures of them.)

So basing on what you see up there, is my chances to get into USC Animation and Digital Media good? I'm not basing my chance of acceptance on my Academics History, but my Personal Statement/Artist Statement and Portfolio.

Thanks

I don’t think there are a lot of students in SCA Animation that check in here anymore. Creative schools/departments at USC do put a lot of weight on talent and potential, but they also have to adhere to the university’s guidelines, and I’m afraid your SAT score is well below any we’ve seen accepted by SCA in the past. Of course, we don’t see all the thousands of acceptances each year, but as a general rule, one should have an SAT score of 1900 as a minimum–with outstanding creative work, awards or honors to make up for lower scores (USC’s average admit SAT is close to 2100. Of course some will be higher and some will certainly be lower, but all students must take GEs and other required courses, in addition to their major coursework, so SC will only admit students they feel will do well academically in those courses.

Perhaps you should post your portfolio and questions on the Arts majors forum. That’s where a lot of the experienced Arts folks hang out. They might be able to give you more help and advice, plus other excellent schools to investigate.

Ok. thanks

It does not hurt to apply. There are always surprises in the admissions process. Since we are unable to judge your artistic and creative talent, it is difficult to advise you. Try to bring up those scores, if you retake the SAT. It is wise to have both a safety and a financial safety among your college choices.

Hey, I applied to SCA for animation too. Your artwork is really impressive. I wish it was April already -___- I’m so nervous. Best of luck!

Thank you (: Good luck to you too!

And yess I can’t wait till April, hopefully we both get accepted.

I had a 1650 sat score and I got into the sca animation program. it’s all about talent

my d got in this year, but her score was 2050 and 30 act. Talent counts for a lot but you have to get past admission. I think recs also helped my d… received an excellent one from her animation prof from pre college… good luck to you.
