My son is going to U of Michigan with every intent on staying, but taking the TTP meeting at USC before registration just to make sure he takes transferable classes in the event that UM doesn’t work for him. Getting pre-admitted to Ross was simply too great to pass up while risking AUP or Europe. We are Over USC for now.
I’m going to a 4-year college and I’ll see how I’m feeling there and whether I still want to transfer or not. I guess it also depends on how much you want USC… I wouldn’t go to Paris though. In my opinion, it’s so far, and, what you said, getting denied again would suck haha @uclauscla
@jazzshreddermom is your son in California or which state? And is he a legacy?
I’m thinking of going to Rome for a year. I don’t really like the schools I applied to…does anyone know if you can transfer to any school if you do that?
@uclauscla Yes, we are in CA and yes he is a legacy (his brother is class of '14). And like many of you he was extremely qualified with great stats, leadership, musicianship, sports, entrepreneurship, you name it (getting pre-admitted to Ross at Michigan as a freshman is really hard, typically harder than getting into USC). We have lost our Trojan spirit completely. It’s a great option for others but to him, but doing AUP/Europe felt like begging and clawing his way to USC with no promise. Doesn’t make sense to him when he has such a fantastic option. Maybe were he not such a great candidate to begin with and felt he needed to prove something to them, it would be more palatable. He got into incredible schools equal to or more selective than SC, many with generous merit money. Sorry to sound bitter, but we are devastated and flabbergasted. My son is honestly doing better than I am.
@NewYorkUSC I don’t think so and I’m pretty sure if you go out of the country, if you want to transfer, the courses will be really limited and won’t transfer to wherever you go.
@jazzshreddermom I feel your disappointment. University of Michigan is a great school and congratulations to him! Going there is in fact a great idea, because first: if he doesn’t make the TTP he will still stay at an awesome school, and if he does transfer, his transcript will indicate his attendance at Michigan.
Do you mind me asking what his SAT and GPA were?
jazzshreddermom, I have a suspicion that CA legacies can actually be at a disadvantage for admission, especially if you are from one of the particularly over-represented areas (if you live in one you know what I’m talking about) and you’re not a high donor etc. Obviously I have no proof of this since USC holds all these things very close to the vest, but I’ve seen a lot of this play out in the last couple of years.
