USC Appeals - Class of 2022

Is anyone willing to proofread my appeal? I’ve printed out 3 copies and made my changes, but I just want an objective POV on this. Thanks.

@jj1999 I may not be able to help much, but I will proofread it if you want

@austinmshauri I’ve actually been on cc for a while, I just opened a new account… I really didn’t mean to be rude or selfish in my post I had the best intentions in what I said. Everything I said was just my opinion and we are all free to express our own opinion. Appealing is a mentally taxing process because you’re building hopes on a minute chance. Basically, my younger brother did the same process and he was devastated yet again after receiving his appeal. He transferred after a year of attending another school and he highly recommended that process to his younger friends and I was just doing the same here. I am sorry if you don’t agree with what I said but please do not question my intentions or integrity; I had everyone’s wellbeing in mind…

@austinmshauri also I just had a peek over at your profile as you had on mine and it seems like you get in plenty of arguments on cc all the time. Please don’t interpret what I said in a negative manner when I was actually looking out for people on this thread. We actually care about our decisions and emotions here.

@jj1999 I would be happy to proofread and make any last-minute edits and suggestions if you’d like! Feel free to message me and I’ll do my best as well

@49078anon3, I’m sorry your brother went through that. It’s generous of you to share his story and I apologize for questioning your motives. We sometimes get posters who try to discourage competition, but I’m glad you’re not one of them and I’m really happy your brother landed on his feet. Did he get any financial aid as a transfer? One of the dangers of that path is that transfers may not get as much aid as freshmen do. Students who need grants to be able to afford school need to choose carefully. The other difficulty with enrolling in one school with plans to transfer to another is that some students never mentally commit to the first school. That can cause problems if their transfer app is rejected. I think you’re right that the chances of being accepted based on an appeal are small. Students should find something to love about the schools that admitted them.

I might deliver my appeal in person. How do I format the cover sheet? I’ve written my letter and sent my first semester grades already.

How exactly does appealing work if you have to commit to a college by May 1st?

@cookiemonster44 I’m guessing this is not much different from the timeline of waitlist. You likely won’t hear anything back about your appeals result until after May 1. So you’ll have to SIR by May 1 with another school. If your appeal overturns your admissions decision and you decide to go to USC, you’ll need to withdraw from the other school and lose your deposit. : (

How do I format my cover sheet? I’ve already written the letter.

@jj1999 You are the second person I’ve seen post that you want to go in person…I really don’t understand this line of thinking. Why or how do you think this would be better than following the instructions USC has laid out for appeals? If it were me I would follow the instructions which do not say “show up in our office insisting on a face to face when we are swamped with our work”.

The FAQ sheet said you can deliver appeals in person, so why not?

@rose1234 Gotcha - I suppose if you live nearby that makes sense. Good luck to you and I’m sure you will end up where you are meant to be whether it is USC or another great school!

Has anyone tried calling or emailing your admissions counselor for USC or for other schools you were rejected by to see why you didn’t get in, so you can focus on that in your appeal?

@jj1999 i can help look over it too

have any of you seen any successful appeals from previous years? I would love to have examples to refer to

also what are some things that you guys are including in your letter?

How should I format my cover page?

probably just keep it the same font and size as the letter, and put the necessary information in the center

Would anyone consider checking my appeal letter? I need more insight on kinds of things and ideas I can include in my letter.
