Ok thank you. I definitely won’t ask if they advise not to. Still grateful for acceptance!
@murk I would say that yes that is part of her hesitation. We are thinking there are 3 ways to handle it. Go abroad w USC, Stay home and take classes to transfer, move to the GTeway apts and go to the CC near USC for a semester. We are still unsure what she will do. She keeps going back and forth. She had def been excited about MI and knows 100% that it is a perfect social fit. USC is more unknown in that regard although she does not have trouble making friends. But USC has the weather she wants, she’s into Marshall, and it where she wanted to go to along. So this should be an interesting week. There is no bad choice we know that but it’s still a tough one.
Where were you committed you? Was this a tough decision for you at all? Where are you from?
Gotta tell you @DeRb61 - I haven’t been in your shoes, but certainly can understand the struggle with that decision. Ugh and yikes. Ya, the spring thing is a biggie, but she isn’t in Ross at Michigan either and that’s a biggie. hmmm. She knows she is comfortable at UM. Too comfortable or good comfortable? I like the thing that people say that you should be both excited and scared when doing something new and big…Did you visit USC to get impressions? I can’t tell from your post if you spent much time on USC campus. We are just adaptable beings. She thought USC was out, so she adapted to the idea of UM. She has to decide if she wants to adapt again with the spring caveat. I guess it is 100% about the spring thing. Go with heart and gut. Best of luck during this exciting and nauseating time.
I am from Kansas City and like your daughter, USC (accepted to Marshall Business as well) was my dream school. I was committed to LMU, but now I’m questioning whether I should head out to LA all together until January (Spring Admission). I want to become accustomed to LA, yet I also want to have friends because I’m very extroverted, so I’m in a dilemma with wanting to stay home with my friends who are going to KU for a semester. Big decision coming up and very nervous like your daughter. Wish you the best! Update me on this forum if you can, I’m alone in this decision as my parents truly do not care where I go for college haha.@derb61
@cadreamin you nailed the issues. She went w my ex to visit USC Feb 2018 so I never saw it which is unfortunate since I have been super involved in this process. Had she not ave been rejected initially we would have made the time to fly out before May 1. It would be ideal if she could visit USC one more time but I’m not sure that will be possible in the next 5 days. Lol. Plus school is out so not much to see on campus. Hopefully she’ll have an epiphany. She can’t go wrong. From my perspective I’m trying to liken it when your pregnant and people ask do you want a boy or a girl and all you care about is a healthy child! I want a happy child!
@murk forgot to mention that my DD spoke a a Freshman girl at USC now that was a spring admit. She went to Switzerland w USC and everything worked out great when she got to USC. I would prefer my daughter to stay home and save the money but she doesn’t want to bc all of her friends will be gone. I think they prob do as good a job as they can integrating the spring kids and it would prob be fine to stay w your friends and then transition once.
Does anyone know when we could expect to receive the package by? Or would we only receive it after we’ve accepted the offer?
Apologies if this is a completely naive question - but are there any financial aid options for those who got accepted through the appeal process, or is this this obvious that at this stage you are expected to pay the full price?
@ArtsyKidDad There likely won’t be merit, so it would only be financial aid at this point, which some theories across all colleges would suggest, that at this point, even if need blind, they just take full pay people (off of waitlist for other schools, or appeals like this one - again just a theory, but a strong one). With only a week to decide (is that right?) I would be curious to know if anyone applied/qualifies for aid and actually gets it. Normally, that is provided a week after acceptance which obviously wouldn’t work with a limited reply window. I would assume if any gift aid/grant was provided that would have been done immediately in your portal to help with decision. I would assume if FA area of your portal doesn’t indicate any, then no, but check tomorrow since graduation was Friday and things may not have been updated. It never hurts to call to validate. Just trying to give you my impressions since it is Sunday and they are closed. I understand the need for information!
Odd thing is, that for many many years, 10 kids out of a 1000 that apply for appeal have gotten in (they have stated those numbers), so we maybe see one post on here. Not much statistical data to work with…this year is insane and was obviously the year to appeal, I feel bad for kids that were discouraged to do so. Ya never know how things will play out. Over the last 9 years, I have never seen so many successful appeals, dramatic increase.
@“Roger@1” The package will probably show up Monday or Tuesday, but while gorgeous and impressive, all the info in there is online/in portal.
Thank you so much for letting me know!
Congrats to those who got in on appeal! I’m going to take a somewhat wild guess and say that instead of over-accepting and over-enrolling, they are using spring admits and appeals sort of like a wait list for fall. They always did use the spring admits kind of like a wait list, but last year the yield was too high so they didn’t have space. The appeals process also gave them a second look at students who really wanted to be at USC and they could use that for the numbers. Mostly I think they needed to manage the numbers better because of housing.
Sorry, I have yet another question @CADREAMIN . Could I ask my rep how many students are currently enrolled as Spring Admits? I feel like it’s nosy, and I know there’s usually about 500-600 per year. It seems they have already bumped everyone to Fall after the commitment deposits and the later appeal acceptances came in. I pray that is not the case for Marshall students. The statement from USC specifically after I submitted my commitment just now said that spring appeal students will be notified by “Mid to Late May” regarding if anyone would be bumped to Fall. I am so eager and curious I don’t know what’s wrong with me lol.
Does anyone know if we need to set up an email account for USC? Has that info already been released for recent Fall admits to USC?
@murk. We spoke w our advisor yesterday. She said they took about 1500 for spring and had many appeals. If they move people to fall it would not for a couple of weeks. She spoke w a dean who said chances less than 5%!! Still thinking but leaning towards MI mostly bc of spring admit. We will prob call advisor today again. She was VERY nice on the phone. She even looked at our local CCs re transfer credits. Have you decided?
@DeRb61 Been thinking of you and the appealers a lot - hope you are finding peace in your decisions. It will feel great once decision is made and this “other May 1st” has passed. I didn’t even want to bring up the maybe of getting moved to fall and glad you asked. That’s a huge spring number. Their timing on things is not one of their strong points - the “make me wait stuff” can be too much in different regards of admissions. I guess part of it is how much you want it overall, but I totally get that sometimes it’s not worth the wait for various reasons. There’s plenty that feel if they didn’t want me for fall or as a freshman (TTP kids), then I don’t want them later. Everyone is right to feel the way they do - hope you can wear whichever sweatshirt for the long haul soon!
Wow. Less than 5% chance now. I guess it’s good to know so we’re not falsely hoping to be bumped to Fall. @DeRb61 , I have decided to attend USC in spring, and I will knock out as many community college courses as possible in Newport Beach (next to my mom’s house) to fill up GE Requirements. Tough decision but I think it’ll be worth it in the long run especially since I love the overall feeling of the college personally more than any colleges I visited. Will also be taking AP Macro and Stats tomorrow and Thursday to hopefully skip more GE. Wish you and your daughter the best of luck in your decision! If I was in that situation, I would go to Michigan. Just as good as USC for many majors (and Mich is even “better” in many aspects), and your daughter will still be surrounded by very talented peers. Just a different environment, but out of many top schools, Michigan is definitely a more social one on the spectrum too.
Has anyone received their USC admission packets?
Has anyone received their financial aid packages? Has anyone been granted scholarships?
@1111632 I called today and they said that they are still working on them
@tbyrxx Did they also mention when they’d send the admissions packet by?
