I am just so happy that I know where I want to go to school now.
USC is amazing! and I love it. I love everything about it, the academics, the athletics, and its location... sunny California baby! So Im just really happy now... and of course now I have my eyes set on it... and naturally want to do everything in my power to get accepted.

I am going to list my stats so I can see where i stand, and hopefully my chances are good??!!!

Also Id also like to ask what schools are most like USC... actually just mainly there campus. I love how the entire campus is gated, and its all compact like that. yet, with large quads still in there and the beautiful architecture. Wut schools have a similar campus and are similar to USC in many ways? Thanks!

Well heere are my stats and hopefully you can tell me if I have a chance.

Academic
Private Jesuit School ( all boys) about 40 kids apply to USC every year, and about half of them get in
3.81 unweighted GPA/ 3.98 weighted
School does not rank
Freshman year- no honors/ no Aps
Sophmore- 3 honors/ no APs
Junior- 1 honors/ 2 Aps
Senior- no honors/ 5 Aps
SAT- 670,620,620------1910 overall

Other Clubs and such
Best Buddies
National Honors Society
Pets Help
Block Club
Environmental club
Little League Umpire
Challenger Baseball
Official little league volunteer
Various Sports Awards

If you can bring up your SAT to over 2000, you will have a shot.

Since you spent a lot of time in sports (not good to write about), you need to dig deep into your other ec's and find something you consider a passion- something you spent a lot of time doing and built on (maybe working with kids- umpire, Little League, etc.?) Pull out some great passionate essays.

In CA, there's really nothing like USC. The closest thing is the UC's- esp. Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB.

As for privates, there's Chapman in Orange which is a great school and campus but it's small and doesn't have the sports mania.

If you're not tired of the Jesuit scene, Santa Clara University is nice (they used to be USC but changed to SCU!)

What major are you looking at? Do you want to look only in Southern California?

glad you fell in love with sc! same thing happened to me- i was ambivalent when i applied but when i visited....well, the decision was made for me :-D

about stats... theres no use obsessing over your past grades bc there's nothing you can do about 'em now, just focus on getting straight A's in senior year (usc asks for mid year reports)
and retake act or sat

i also loved USC when i visited last week. beautiful campus, in southern california, amazing sports, etc, etc. USC seems like it has so much to offer!! plus i got to meet pete carroll and tim floyd :)

only negative thing ive heard about USC is that it has many rich spoiled kids. is that true?

every school has spoiled kids. i was accepted as a transfer from gwu, the most expensive school in the country, and there are definitely spoiled kids there.

spoiled kids shouldn't make your decision--the school's academic offerings and its overall atmosphere should.

Even though everyone told me it was the "University of Spoiled Children" (I prefer "University of Sexy Californians"), at orientation everyone was soooo nice. There were no people that I immediately got the "I'm rich and no one else matters to me" vibe, which I was sort of expecting to see at least once. People don't flaunt their wealth as much as you would think based on all the rumors.

I'm at SC for a summer program through Viterbi and will be a freshmen this fall. It truly is the best school anywhere. As far as your chances, your gpa is average according to this years incoming class (I heard this at a workshop), but its still good. You should have a good shot as long as you raise your SAT/ACT to over 2000/~30.

Your stats remind me alot of mine (except I had no sports (church stuff instead) and lil more AP classes.) I got in but remember the competition is getting worse... Yeah probably should bring up that SAT score or ACT score (i really wish I took ACT at least once, sigh) and you should have a good chance :D good luck!

I used to really want to go to USC for college, but so many people are telling me that it has a bad reputation...so I am sort of scared now. I've also heard people complaining about the campus...
What is it really like? Are people there really pressured about school work?

What bad reputation just wondering?
The campus itself is beautiful, its just the surrounding areas that aren't so necessarily... uh... you get the point. But I lived there for a year and its not so bad. Seriously. I never had problems with it and never knew people that had problems with it. And I'm from a rich very enclosed suburb in Oklahoma. haha.

School load depends on what your major is. I'm an art major so I'm pretty laid back (about my major classes anyways..not always the case for some other classes though) but pre-meds (who are usually bio majors) always seem busy. And engineering students too... and most popular majors. ^^;; It really depends on your major, your class choices, and how many classes you are gonna be taking.

I see...
I often hear from people saying that a lot of students who go to USC are rich and spoiled = =
Well...I'm not one of the people who thinks that...but I wonder why people say that...

Oh come on, there are plenty of kids who are spoiled and rich and bratty. Annenberg and Marshall are full of them. that aside, you'll also find plenty of really smart, hard-working people.

I don't know what your major is, but I don't think USC is that tough. I'm a business major with a 3.8 and I think I'm pretty lazy. But apparently only 10% of Marshall has over a 3.5
