Yesterday I got an email from USC saying this:
"Thank you for your strong interest in the University of Southern California and for submitting your admission application to our freshman class. We have completed a preliminary review of your application file and are writing to request further information.

Specifically, we would like to see the results of the first term of your senior year course work before we take final action on your application."

I got a D+ in calculus my first term of this year (senior year). Does this mean my chances WERE good and now I just blew em?

Everyone must submit their first semester senior grades. I don’t know if the letter is customary, but the ‘further information’ is. If you have a legitimate reason as to why you got a D+ (sickness or family situation or something like that) then be sure to write a letter to USC and let them know.

@shk909 would focus on other activities with actual success count as a legitimate cause? Not to mention taking responsibility in my own hands and doing 2 semesters of AP statistics online in one semester with the ultimate goal of an Academic Honors Diploma in mind.

@StarWarsMan I don’t think so because all that’s saying to them is that you can’t time manage or balance a heavy work load. But, I’m no expert. Talk to your school guidance counselor or a teacher, maybe they can help you craft something that sounds true that sounds legit.

An alternative would be to write a letter updating them on your first semester, stating your accomplishments so you can mention your AP stats and other activities. It most likely won’t effect the admission outcome but there’s always a possibility.
