USC Class of 2017 Applicants!

I got the email this morning. :frowning: I wasn’t really expecting to get any of the huge scholarships because of my test scores (1590 SAT/24 ACT) anyways, but I’m still disappointed. I hope my luck is better in March! I have a very good GPA, decent committed EC’s, good LOR’s, Quest Bridge finalist status, and very nice essays! I hope USC looks at my app more as a whole, instead of my test scores. lol  Congrats to all who get to interview and good luck! :D

Thanks Smother :)

Hey guys, does anyone know if the names of the PDFs for those that are accepted and those that are not are different? I have a PDF, but when I try to open it I can’t read it! It is called “Application Decision Notification”. I didn’t get an email either, so I’m going crazy!

Leye13, you probably got in!!! They don’t reject kids this early! Call the office ASAP though.

There are officially four students from my high school alone who have gotten in to USC with early scholarships. Wow.

Son got big fat packet today but no scholarship and no email saying no scholarship-bummer. No scholarship=no go. His stats are 4.0 unweighted/4.6 W, 35 ACT. Accepted to Engineering. It felt kind of cruel to get the big packet this early and not get an scholarship. Would have been better to wait and send it later and then he wouldn’t have thought there was a good chance.

Leye13 ~ Change the extension on the pdf from .pdf.html to .pdf
If it’s opening in your browser, download it instead and put it on your desktop for Mac and whatever you do with Windows. That way you can change the extension to .pdf

If you’ve been accepted, look on the bottom of the second page, the one that states your Major, for a message about your Merit Scholarship Status.

If I got a admit packet from this early I would be ecstatic and wouldn’t even care if I got any special scholarship. lol I would feel like the luckiest person in the world. Maybe it’s just me. ;)

I can save it to my desktop, but I don’t know how to get rid of the .html- it doesn’t have the option under “save as” like it normally does. It already downloads to my computer, but then opens into a desktop window. I have a mac if that matters? Thanks for the help!

CuriousJDG9513- that’s definitely how I see it!! I was lucky enough to get a scholarship interview, and I’m very excited, but I’m way more excited about 4 years on a beautiful campus with great academics(: but it’s understandable that people are concerned about financial aid.
To all the people accepted w/o scholarship notfi: I heard if you’re accepted without an interview invite that you’re still up for Dean’s Scholarship. True or not true? Hopefully that will help cover the cost so you can attend!

I also just tried to open it in word- it isn’t random characters anymore, but it has just become broken code that I can’t read.

CuriousJDG9513, Yes, sorry to sound so down but DS knew he could not go unless he got a great scholarship. He knew it when he applied but with his stats, we thought he would have a good chance of getting an interview for one and he really loves the school. Actually, I think it was his favorite school of the ones he visited but didn’t want to get his hopes up.

When he came in with the packet, I thought for sure it meant he got a scholarship interview so we were really confused and for a second, thought there must be a mistake and they forgot to put his letter in the packet. Sadly, there just isn’t a chance of him being able to go because of money. I hope you get in and get to go!

Leye13, try logging in from another computer, or a friend’s computer. Or try another browser (Firefox vs. Safari, etc.) (Also, if you have a mac, you can change the extension on the title of the document’s icon on your desktop - you don’t need to “save as.”)

It could also be an issue with your default reader. Can you switch from Adobe to Preview? Or visa versa? I find Adobe causes problems.

Meanwhile, doe the PDF’s of those who only see their “no scholarship” letter have a different title?

jazz/shreddermom- changing it on my desktop worked!!! I’m accepted! I’m a literally jumping up and down, I’m so excited! Should they have mentioned scholarships in the letter, or will I need to wait for my packet to see if I got one? I am so excited either way- I’m a NMSF right now, probably NMF soon, so I will be ok I think.

Leye13 ~ When the file is on your desktop, click on the name beneath the file icon so you can edit the extension (.pdf.html). (When you click on it, it will look like a white rectangle and might have light blue in it.) Change the extension to .pdf It might look like USCDec2013.pdf

If it doesn’t show the extension, try erasing and renaming the file and adding .pdf at the end. Erase the name in the box, and put USC.pdf and see if that works.

Re: Scholarship ~ Look on the bottom of the second page, the one that states your Major, to see if there is a message about your Merit Scholarship Status. It won’t mention National Merit even if you’ve named USC.

Leye13, I’m so thrilled for you and happy to have helped!! I think someone wrote just above where in the letter your potential scholarship would be mentioned. But since you’re NMF likely… yay!

I have a “information about the scholarship process tab” that I can’t read either

@Leye13 … Would you mind telling me what you did to read the PDf.html

Once it was saved to my desktop, I just edited the name by clicking on it and deleting the .html part, leaving the .pdf - after that, I could read it.

Yesterday, I got a financial aid deadlines email that I’ve already gotten before over the past couple months. However, I haven’t gotten an email saying I’m not being considered for scholarships like some others have. Is this a good sign–or nothing? Nothing in the mail yet, and nothing on USConnect.
