USC Class of 2017 Applicants!

Someone posted on Facebook that they just got a letter. I’m on vacation but my neighbor is about to check for me to see if it’s there. Fingers crossed!

a letter of what

And one of my things was the same as my personal statement, but my other essay was utter crap. I literally wrote it in 20 mins.

My personal statement was beautiful. I loved it. It took me a while to make it perfect, and I think it tells a lot of who I am.

Now that I think about it…I used my UC essays in my Questbridge app! I’m starting to get excited but I don’t want to get my hopes up. lol

@ilovemyego: scholarship notification letter.

Mine’s not at my house yet so I guess I’ll have to wait for Monday. Gulp…

MassxSilverwing - Do you mean a letter for the Trustee/Presidential scholarship that we interviewed for, at Explore USC? :open_mouth: Or was it one of the other scholarships?

Yup, Trustee scholarship interviewee. Super anxious to find out. 200K on the line. NMF already guarantees half tuition, but full tuition would make it so much easier to decide.

^I feel for you! I live in Northern California so I hope to get the news on Monday. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for both of us til then!

I’ll cross my fingers too! I am anticipating not getting the Trustee’s but I want to so, so badly.

Been playing in my word search booklet for a little less than a hour while listening to music. lol :slight_smile: How are you guys passing the time til decisions come out?

Literally watching Les Miserables over and over again.

My chances of getting in are so slim. ;-;

What are your SAT scores?

you like les mis? @ seb

My chances are pretty slim too, my SAT score is an 1880, with a 28 ACT. I know test scores aren’t everything, but there definitely something. Also, I’ve only taken 4 AP classes and my school only offers 5.

@ego
I love Les Mis. I’ve seen the broadway tour of it here in LA and I love the movie so much I can’t stop watching it lol.

@infinite and NASA
Don’t over think your statistics. As I mentioned in some chance me thread, while statistics are important and concrete, the application is extremely subjective, especially the writing and recommendations. Your essays and letters of rec might really impress the admissions team, and for others, although they might have great test scores, their writing and letters of rec might not be as impressive. If it is any consolation, I got an 1870 on the SAT, didn’t take any SAT 2’s, in total have only taken 5 AP classes (that’s including this year) and got into UCLA, which is statistically harder to get into than SC. Of course I realize that is no indicator of my admission into USC, but it certainly opened my eyes to the meaning of “holistic”. Let’s be hopeful :)

I couldn’t agree with you more @Seabasstian! I got in UCLA with a 1590 SAT and a 24 ACT. As far as I know, I have the lowest SAT/ACT out of anybody who were accepted to UCLA, on CC at least. lol That is what I thought holistic review ment but almost anybody on CC who I told my scores to, they, in my own words, told me I absolutely didn’t have a chance of admission to UCLA. Guess I proved them wrong. ;)

That is the mission for this week “Prove them WRONG”

…Thats my mission. This USC acceptance means so much more than going to school.

Prove my doubters wrong, prove those who said “Why repeat a year of high school and go to boarding school”, Prove those who want me to fail because they failed, Prove those haters aka motivators wrong.

Thats what its all about people

USC’s acceptance rate is 4% lower than UCLA’s acceptance rate; however, USC consideres things such as teacher recommendations and the mid-year report while UCLA doesn’t.

Don’t lose hope just because your test scores are low. As long as other aspects of your application is good, it should outweigh the test score.

One thing to point out is that UCLA received a little less than half of applications than USC (not sure how to word it but UCLA got over 80,000 apps from first year students while USC got over 47,000 applications). I don’t know how the admit rate is affected by how many applications a school receives however.

Usually the admit rate lowers with the more applications…UCLA received an insane amount…

And their method is not okay…not okay at all…

they basically hire students and alumni to read applications and admit or reject based on what they think. Its not a group discussion. Its more like…one person makes a decision and passes it along to UCLA. I don’t see how that is holistic.

And most of the alumni don’t read all the way through, they just want to read as many applications as possible so they can get more money-_-

Curious,

This year UCLA received many more applications than USC. It will be interesting to discover the admit rates of the two universities when the official numbers are released.
