can anyone post the link? My usc connect page wont let me click the status check for some reason…

Got accepted yesterday and I am ecstatic! Definitely planning on coming here.

Does anyone know when we will be notified of Presidential Scholarships? Do National Merit Finalists need to commit before we are notified?

Congrats to everyone else! Even if you didn’t get in, I’m sure that there are great colleges where you’ll have a great time.

@Bacapal - have you considered appealing? It might be worth a shot to show how much you really wanted to be a part of the campus. Even at my college a slightly squeaky wheel can sometimes be heard. Why not try it?

You have amazing stats. And there’s nothing you could have done better. Don’t try to second guess it. Last year there were students who were in the same boat and I really REALLY think part of the problem is that the common app is causing a small subset of students with great stats to flood the system. Every university has seen their application pool skyrocket to insane levels.

So my advice. Send an appeal to USC asking them to reconsider. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain if they approve it. Good luck!

Good advice as always @ArtsandLetters. I’ve wondered if the Common App increased applications. I know we would not have applied to so many schools if the Common App hadn’t made it so easy.

@mrssoffel - the sad part about this cycle is - with that being the case, students are having to hedge their bets by applying to more. Last year there was a long thread about people who received no acceptances at any college (despite being academically admissable).

I’m kind of hating how the Common App and the over emphasis on ACT/SAT scores is dividing the country even further. College Admissions is starting to look like the paper version of Hunger Games. :(

The best advice is to choose a broad range of schools and add several safeties. I’m often surprised at how many students won’t consider a State University as an option. Or schools like Grinnell that don’t often get mentioned but are very competitive in terms of academic strength.

@navsend - no, you don’t have to commit to receive notice of the NMS 1/2 tuition Presidential Scholarship. To get the award you must

Be accepted (CONGRATS!)

Be named NMS (CONGRATS!)

Name USC as your first-choice school by the deadline. If you haven’t named USC as first-choice yet, now is the time!

To speed up the process, you might upload a copy of your NM letter saying you are a NMS and send that to admissions and/or financial aid to get the ball rolling. As I recall, letters about the NM scholarship arrive throughout April.

I saw my acceptance status online, but still haven’t received anything in the mail. The students in my neighborhood all did one or two days ago, and we live quite close to campus. Should I call on Monday or maybe it’s just lost in the mail?

I got waitlisted at UCLA, rejected from UCB and USC, while my friend with the same stats albeit different extracurriculars (different, not necessarily better) got into all the same schools. Guess my life on paper is worthless compared to being officers of legit-sounding medical clubs. I really don’t know what to think anymore, whether I have lost my faith in the application system or whether this is the ultimate confirmation that I’m nowhere near as qualified as I always thought I was.

@gamergal27 thanks!!! please tell me from your username that you’re sca for video game design!!! I will be your best friend!!!

Accepted to Sca Writing for Screen and Television program!! I live in california and didn’t get my package until today. I had given up all hope yesterday! 1910 sat and 3.83 uw gpa. This is a miracle

@joysundayo Actually I own a company that does market research for videogame publishers.

woah! hook me up!!! haha I’m guessing you’re not a student then haha. @gamergal27

@issabellanegri Congrats!!! Just saw someone else get accepted over at the SCA Hopefuls thread!

Does any1 know where we can check for “university scholarships” aside from the merit based scholarships?

I found mine under the “gift aid” in financial aid. Hope that helps!

"@bacapal: Yeah I know, there are plenty of qualified applicants and I know I had a shot. I saw that I was in the range, that’s why I thought my ACT had nothing to do with it. It’s just tough because I know I couldn’t have possibly done any more in my school or community but I still got rejected. I would be fine with the decision, but I got rejected from the three colleges I wanted to go to most and have been accepted to the ones I only planned as backups."
same here; such a long wait for such a disappointing answer :(

Rejected from 12 colleges including USC here, very disappointed but going to attempt an appeal just for a small glimmer of hope… but Congratulations to all you who got in!

@yoamogatos

Combined vs non-combined SAT scores only make up for 15 out of 2400 on the SAT, if you average it out over all kids. Both my kids for example super scoring would not have helped at all, and this is very common.

Son admitted to Viterbi Mechanical Engineering but Biomedical Engineering (Biomechanical focus) was his first choice. Does anyone know if you can ask to change majors before registering? We are still awaiting Financial Aid Package- his FA tab says “still under review”.

Does anyone know if National Merit Finalists are notified about the presidential award on the financial aid portion of USConnect? Mine seems to not have the scholarship on the financial aid summary. Anyone else having this problem?
