USC Class of 2018 Applicants Thread

Anyone and everyone who is applying to USC this year can chat, anticipate, worry, ask questions or do whatever in here.

On Dec 29th I got a request for mid-year grades, does this mean anything?

I just submitted mine anyway.

I haven’t been asked for mid-year grades… Did they just send you an email? What particular school did you apply for?

My S got a postcard requesting the mid-year grades.

A request for mid year grades is common. Do not be concerned it you receive a postcard asking for an update on your grades.

Submitted my first quarter grades as soon as they were released (late November). Not mid-year obviously, but we don’t get those until late January/early February.

I just got an envelope the other day from admissions on “financing my future”… Basically a neat little booklet detailing the various grants/scholarships USC awards, including different loan types and interest rates, and basic FASFA directions along w/ some fluff on their need-blindedness.

I got irrationally excited when I saw a (somewhat) thick envelope from USC in the mail. I don’t know how I’ll last until March!

I received an e-mail and a message on my portal.

I have my first trimester grades which are perfect but I have like two classes from my semester classes that could end up being B’s should I submit my trimester ones now and just not submit my other classes?

I was extremely excited as well when I saw the thick envelope from SC!!! March is so far away!!! hahaha

Is it bad if they didn’t ask me for mid-year grades??? Does it at all reflect upon scholarship chances?

I was wondering the same… I haven’t been asked. Not sure if this is good or bad haha

My D has not been asked for mid year grades, as far as I know. Her school will send first semester grades to all colleges she applied to when they become available, mid January probably. I wonder why they ask some applicants for mid year grades and not others…

I have not received a request for grades either… Perhaps their sending the post-cards out in waves? The only mail I’ve received so far is the USC Viterbi magazine as well as the financial aid pamphlet.

People who applied for scholarships (Nov. 30) hear back later this month.

People who applied before Dec.1 will hear whether they are being considered for scholarship only. If they are declined for scholarship, they wait with the rest of applicant pool for March decision.

Ugh I can’t wait until decisions later this month! Does anyone know what the request of mid-year grades insinuates for sure?

I think that the request just means that they have read through my application nothing more nothing less(they were missing my test scores if that had anything to do with it) here is the message.

I’m really hoping for at least half tuition scholarships USC is my dream school but that would be the only way I could afford it. I I got into HYPS early(one of them) but I’m not confident about USC.

I heard that a request for mid-year grades is usually a sign that you’re sort of in the maybe/maybe not category. So basically, it means that they’re on the brink of saying yes, but they just need some more information before they make a decision.
Well…at least that’s what they do in UCLA.

What if you get no request for grades? (My DS hasn’t seen one) Is that considered a good sign or bad sign?

It means they have all the info they need, that is all. It means either the student or the school turned in everything on time. That is a good thing but in no way indicates a positive or negative outcome.

For those who didn’t get a mid-year report request, what’s the last form of communication you had with USC and vice-versa?
