Congrats to the accepted!
Did anyone else get into the School of Dramatic Arts???
Agree, @Nomorelurker. But, as this is the USC CO2022 board and not a general 2022 board, I didn’t think it was necessary to put that. However, I would say that some college locations may be more “forgiving” to cluelessness than USC.
@savannahmaeGusc yes! What major did you get in to?
BA Theatre @ttg1125 how about you?
Anybody get deferred until Fall "19. How prevalent is this?
@rose1234 Sorry to hear what you have had to go through with your health issues. My sister had an eating disorder starting in her freshman year in HS. She went through hell but self-taught herself while hospitalized and got into her dream school, CMC. I can appreciate what you are experiencing. Hopefully, you find the perfect spot for yourself. Keep fighting for your dream!
Thank you, I hope so! I’m sorry your sister went through that, but it’s great that she got into her dream school!
@savannahmaeGusc I got in for a BFA In stage management:)
@Sedgecomb definitely call the admissions office. Mine kept showing up like that and I freaked out but it turned out my portal somehow got switched to my mom’s email. If you call they can look into it for you!
Do u mind letting me know your Facebook name if you have one? I want to start a SDA group @ttg1125
just pm’ed you ! @savannahmaeGusc
Hey! I was admitted and found out (3/23) for the spring of 2019! Here are my stats:
Major: Cinema and Media Studies
GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)/4.35 (weighted)
Demographics: White, middle class, female
ACT: 33
AP Tests: 5 on
-AP Physics C: Mechanics
-AP Calculus AB
Taking AP Calc BC, APES, and AP French IV this year.
Experience: Took online screenwriting course through UCLA in summer of 2016; a two week intensive in summer of 2017 where we made two films in groups of 8 (also at UCLA); two short screenplays, one film for applications that I wrote, directed, was DP on, and edited; and an elective class called “Art of Film” my sophomore year…I was actually rejected from UCLA.
ECs: Pretty strong. President/founder of Film Club at my school, member and Historian of Aerospace Club for two years, member of Literary Club for 2 or 3 years (I forgot which), and Secretary of Debate Club for 2 years. I also have been a ballet dancer for 12 years, and currently train at about 18 hours/week at ABT Gillespie School. I also used to sing, act, etc., and I am a childhood cancer survivor. Plus the aforementioned film courses.
Strong (I’m assuming since I got in) recommendations from summer course teacher, Art of Film/English teacher, and French teacher. My film/English teacher I had two years in a row (once for Art of Film and the next year for English.) I have had my French teacher for three years in a row now, and she taught me ballet when I first started. Needless to say, she knows me pretty well.
Production was my first choice, and Critical Studies/CMS was my second.
I really didn’t think I would get in, so I’m super nervous about it now.
Can’t wait to meet all of you! Go Trojans!!
@kymc212 No it is not just legacies that get Trojan Transfer Plan. Old rumor, not true.
@rivers333 I sent you a PM (private message)
I just got admitted for spring! This was a definite reach for me, I’m super excited! Is there a facebook group for spring admits?
Is there a facebook group for Marshall admits, or just admits in general?
@sleepyeyed2 I am sorry you or your student did not get accepted to USC. Setting up an account to post disparaging comments about a school on the biggest day of these young people’s lives says a lot. There is often an insecurity regarding USC and all that it offers, that UCLA folks are plagued with, that frankly, I find puzzling. They can both be great schools for many many students.
The best news for you, is apparently, that you do not attend or have someone attending USC! Congrats!
I’m fairly new to CC. I need some advice regard USC vs. UCLA for an Out-Of-State Communications Major (already accepted to both). Do I need to start a separate thread for that discussion?
@sleepyeyed2, to be clear, I concur that USC is located in a marginal neighborhood not far from Watts in South Los Angeles that has had serious crime issues over the years. The school has significantly increased measures in recent years to make the campus and surrounding area safe for students. That being said, while I believe the campus and close perimeter is safe, caution should be exercised particularly at night and in any large urban city. USC is not the only school that is in an urban area where students need to be careful. Columbia, Yale, Johns Hopkins, UMD, Penn and others have issues and arguably have not done nearly as much as USC has to improve safety for students.
Yes, there were a couple of isolated high profile heinous murders in the past five or six years, which likely motivated many of the enhanced security measures that are in place today. The 2016 stabbing of a professor, though tragic, appears to have been an isolated incident by a graduate student and likely does not reflect on overall crime or safety in the area. I would be more concerned about the gun culture in the United States that allows 18 year old students to purchase military assault weapons, but that is another issue for debate on another thread.
The two Chinese students murdered in 2011 was tragic and is the kind of concern that I would caution students to be aware of in terms of the area around campus. It may not be safe to park cars (especially expensive models) off campus on side streets near campus, at least not then. Maybe there is more campus security and LAPD patrols in the one to three mile radius from the campus today. All that said, the campus and University Village are well protected but USC is in an urban city and students should be aware of how to conduct themselves in an urban environment, particularly where there is potential socioeconomic disparity. You seem to have it out for USC. As I wrote in an earlier post, I think CAL Berkeley and other universities have the potential for significant safety issues that may be worse. I can’t defend the actions of the former Keck president, but I am not sure of how this one individual’s behavior relates to overall campus safety today? There are always going to be bad apples at any large institution. Look at Penn State! Hopefully things are learned and similar situations will not be repeated.
I am not an expert on the sports violations and history, but Wikipedia is generally not a reliable source. Yet you confirm the point I was making, that USC received some of the harshest penalties for what went on with Reggie Bush, while other universities have made their share of mistakes and been given a slap on the wrist by comparison (think Miami Hurricanes and Ohio State). It seems that USC was singled out for a harsher punishment than other schools with similar or worse violations.
I agree with you on one point, which is that there are many fine universities where students can get an excellent education. The 87% who did not get into USC this year will no doubt have many excellent options.
