How many TTP’s are offered?
@CADREAMIN Oh ok that’s a relief thank you!
Which is harder to get into – UCLA or USC?
Thanks @TreeAlum, I’ll look through that thread!
@collegeiate2019 Ya sorry I wasn’t as clear as I should have been, trying to answer so many posts at lightening speed sometimes! You are good and golden
Congrats and welcome to the Trojan Family!
My son is wait listed for the dance program. Anybody have any experience with this? Does anyone ever get in from the wait list? They said there is a very small number on it-just wondering if anybody knows.
@CADREAMIN that is frustrating to hear about TTP and the lack of timeliness on the acceptances. AHH! We will keep our eyes open on this. But, thanks for letting us know. Seems like it’s a newer program, and still working out kinks. Any additional info is SUPER helpful!
the one you don’t get into.
Both are hard. USC acceptance rate is lower overall and some programs within USC are crazy low, like SCA and engineering. But UCLA engineering has super low acceptance rate particularly for CS. My answer, both = extremely hard.
Hi I got in today, it said in the email we can apply for housing… but idk what ID number to use ?
My S was offered the Marshall School of Business Pathways program to transfer in 2-3 semesters.
@LisaLisa24 unfortunately it’s not new. They just don’t prioritize it. It is great for those that really want to graduate from USC at all costs, but just know you have to do your own homework. The 30 minute meeting is them going over the GE brochure. Not a lot of data or support. Better to go into it knowing that so you aren’t constantly disappointed in lack of info. Some kids head abroad for the year, you can see how that has worked out for other students to see if it is an option for you. There are some facebook groups out there, try to get people to discuss any actual issues rather than painting it broadly. Some parents are ready to send little junior that far the first year, others are not (same with kid themselves). So depends on what options the student has and what long term goals are.
Worse case (or best case) they sign up for it and look at it as a back-up in case they just really don’t like the school they choose. Win-win that way. If they still think they want to transfer after the first semester, the option is there, if not, they don’t apply. Everyone throws out transfer like it is a nothing, but it is an ordeal…of course they manage it, but it is not the funnest thing to do in within those fast four years. So it is good to think about how it will impact their college time/friends and if it is worth it. No wrong decision, just an individual one. Good luck, at a minimum it is a nice back up.
@CADREAMIN thanks! I was accepted to UCLA but rejected from USC Marshall
As for housing… Newly Admitted Freshman Applicants: The USC Housing application will be open at 9am (PDT) on Wednesday, March 27th. You will receive an email by March 26th with your login information.
I do recommend, even if you are not sure if committing to USC, to go ahead and post the minor housing deposit… usually just $55 or so… to reserve your place in line.
@hsclassof2023 People can argue all they want about these two, but lets call it like it is, they are both great schools. No one is embarrassed to say they attend either one, lol. Are you going to do economics there since they don’t have a formal business program? It’s a great major, wish you well on the blue side of town!
At this point, I’ve given up hope about hearing back re: merit scholarships until Monday. Disappointing how they’ve really jerked us around and given us no info
@am1970 I deeply feel you. My son applied as a viola performance major and was accepted but his true passion is computer science. He has high stats as your son, 36 ACT, 1590 SAT, NMSF and U.S. Presidential Scholars candidate. We didn’t dare to put CS as his first choice major. We were so afraid that he would not be accepted anywhere.
Ya, it’s odd @excitedtobehere - the merit kids usually get all the special treatment, this is certainly new for them. Since they mentioned Monday (someone said that’s what they said in a call) and they like to always send thing out earlier than set expectations, maybe it’ll be tonight or tomorrow.
I have heard there are thoughts to really change the idea of merit, but that won’t effect you. Since merit recipients aren’t different than other kids (with majority having high stats nowadays), it will be interesting to see how they handle in the future.
But hey, go live your life - you don’t have to decide/commit till May 1 anyway, so there is lots of time. Enjoy your acceptances for now.
Rejected. It’s ok tho, to all my fellow rejected applicants we will end up at an amazing place! So proud of everyone.
Thank you @CADREAMIN and @WWWard once again for everything. I will genuinely miss everyone on this thread most of all I think!
Congrats to everyone who got in! You earned it!! <3
@reinawrites oh no, say it ain’t so! I hope you have some other great options. We are gonna miss all your happy emoji’s around here and your positivity! Do you know where you are leaning? Are you considering Scripps? If you have any question, the most helpful poster on cc knows a ton about Scripps, let me know if that is being considered. She could give you the good, bad and ugly of it (and other schools too) if you need info.
Did you have time to change after work, lol I know that was a concern!
@CADREAMIN thank you for the kind and measured words. You bring up a good point - something I’ve been mulling over these past two months, as I’ve kind of felt some “imposter syndrome” having gotten a scholarship nomination. I’m really no different from any of the other qualified acceptees (or rejectees, let’s be honest). It will be interesting to see how they handle this going forward.
